Bath & Body Works is known for many things: lotion, candles, holiday collections and more. While they do sell perfume, a lot of people go for their fine fragrance mists or other body sprays; they’re just not known for perfumes. However, Bath & Body Works' newest drop of their “Tropidelic” fragrance—which is a part of their spring collection—has a lot of people buzzing about how high-end it smells and I’d have to agree.

The Tropidelic scent launched in 20+ products on Feb. 9 at Bath & Body Works, which includes a 3-wick candle, foaming hand soap, body cream and more. This spring drop also included reformulated versions of spring and tropical scents like Waikiki Beach Coconut, Costa Rica Pink Pineapple Sunrise and Bahamas Passionfruit & Banana Flower. There are also new 3-wick candles (like Coconut Piña Colada) and new hand soaps (like Sunlit Palm Trees and Seaside Cove).

Specifically, BBW’s new Tropidelic Eau de Parfum retails for $54.95 for the full-size perfume bottle (1.7 fl oz) and $13.95 for the mini perfume spray size (.23 fl oz). You can of course buy it in a fine fragrance mist for $17.95, but that’s formulated a bit differently than the perfume version.

As Bath & Body Works’ site says, the Tropidelic scent is supposed to smell like “an electrifying expedition through a lush, tropical rainforest.” And what that boils down to in terms of the “fragrance notes” is “passion flower, ylang-ylang and misty rainforest.” In person, it’s “bright” and of course tropical. It has subtle hints of “sunscreen,” as it has hints of coconut, but still doesn’t smell exactly like coconut, if that’s possible.

I think that’s partly because of the ylang ylang scent in it; ylang ylang is a yellow flower from the Cananga tree, which is native to countries around the Indian Ocean (India, Philippines, Indonesia, etc.). Healthline reports that ylang ylang is used in Chanel No. 5, which makes sense as to why so many people are likening Tropidelic to high-end, expensive perfumes.

One review for the mini perfume spray said Tropidelic reminded them of Voce Viva by Valentino. And then someone on a Reddit post in the r/bathandbodyworks subreddit wrote that it smelled like a fragrance from another luxury brand.

“It reminds me of a lighter version of Estée Lauder Beyond Paradise which is one of my all-time favorites,” they wrote about the discontinued bottle. “It may be my first full-bottle perfume fragrance purchase.”

With the Estée Lauder and Valentino comparisons, and another Reddit user saying it reminds them of Tom Ford’s Venetian Bergamot fragrance, the luxury compliments just keep rolling in.

On top of the Tropidelic perfume smelling expensive, others are just obsessed with the packaging.

"The packaging caught my eye right away. How pretty," one user wrote on Reddit, while another wrote that the “packaging alone makes me want it lol." Another commented that the scent “smells like the vacation perfume.”

There does seem to be a Tropidelic divide on Reddit, with people either really loving the scent or absolutely hating it. However, it is pretty pleasant in my opinion.

I’m not a flowery perfume person (unless the flower is rose or lavender), but there was just something alluring about this perfume. Maybe ylang ylang will have to be another flower I add to my perfume arsenal. It was just so noticeable from the moment I uncapped it and I’ve been wearing it daily since.

In any case, if you like high-end perfumes and are looking for something that’s perfect for spring, especially a tropical getaway for Spring Break, Bath & Body Works’ Tropidelic scent and perfume might be worth a try.
