Just a Buncha Celebrities Who Revealed They Had Their First Kiss on Screen

Unless you're one of the lucky few who had a magical first kiss surrounded by rainbows, butterflies, and squirrels/fresh off braiding your hair in the morning, chances are, your formative experience of locking lips was...awkward. Like, braces, food in teeth, mom waiting in the car for your "date" to be over kind of awkward.

But take that core memory and imagine the addition of a group of strangers, a bunch of cameras, potentially a full live audience, and also your grandparents who decided to come stare at you for some reason. That is, apparently, the lived experience of a few dozen celebrities who had their first kiss immortalized on camera. Like, I never thought Selena Gomez, Zac Efron, and Keke Palmer had much in common other than growing up in the House of Mouse, but apparently their first kiss experiences (not with each other, lol) will link them forever!

Also, speaking of Selena, fun fact: Her first kiss was with Dylan Sprouse, even though she had a massive crush on his twin Cole Sprouse. Hate when that happens. Anyway, check out every celeb who's opened up about kissing on camera—from former Disney stars to Oscar-winning actors.

Millie Bobby Brown: 'Stranger Things'

On top of the general awkwardness of having your first kiss surrounded by an entire production crew, Millie Bobby Brown's dad was there for her kiss with Finn Wolfhard, which made everything that much more awk.

"My dad was watching. My dad watched the whole thing, my whole family was there, and it was the most awkward thing in the world," she said. "On the other aspect of it, without my dad knowing, it's so cool to have your first kiss, on screen. So I can show people when I’m older like, this was my first kiss on screen. Some people take it in a negative way, I take it in a positive way, I think it's really cool."

Side note: Millie went ahead and called Finn a "lousy kisser" during a Vanity Fair lie detector test, which, brutal.

Fortunately Finn wasn't offended, saying on The Drew Barrymore Show, "The romantic way of putting it was that I headbutted her. But I was 12, so, you know, I probably would have done the same thing if I was not on screen in front of the entire world."

Danielle Fishel: 'Boy Meets World'

Nothing more iconic than Cory and Topanga's first kiss! Which happened to be a first for Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel as well. And, yep, her grandparents were there to witness it.

"I had to kiss Ben, and I had never kissed anyone in my entire life," she said. "It was made even more difficult by the fact that Topanga was so self-assured, and Topanga was so confident in her decision to kiss Corey.... Not only had I never kissed anybody before, but I had certainly never kissed anybody in front of a live studio audience that's also housing my grandparents and parents. Like, everyone is there."

Ben Savage also had thoughts on the kiss, saying, "It was my first official kiss on a TV show in front of millions of people. On our show, we tape it in front of a live audience and there's hundreds of people watching. So it's a lot of pressure for a little kid. It's still a lot of pressure."

Obviously, they got less awkward as the show continued, as this photo proves!

Josh Hutcherson: 'Little Manhattan'

Josh was asked about his first kiss while promoting The Hunger Games, and according to a truly ancient Oh No They Didn't blog post, he mused, "My mom was up there with me and surprised me by flying my dad in because I had to do the kiss scene and had to have my dad there supporting me and stuff."

He also noted that the kiss was "horrible" because he had "a crew of like 50 people standing around watching me and it was the most non-real, non-intimate that I could possibly have for my first kiss I think."

Keke Palmer: 'Jump In!'

Keke's very first kiss was with her Jump In! co-star Corbin Bleu, and truly, the movie title was a metaphor for her experience. (Like, 'cause she had to...jump in.)

"Even though that wasn't my real first kiss," Keke told Cosmo, "it was my actual first kiss. I remember having a conversation with the director or somebody I was working with on the film at that time who just told me that I don't have to own it as that and that I can separate the two—and [introduced] me to the boundaries that you have to have between yourself and your characters. But you know, it was my first kiss, and I remember just feeling excited, and it was cool because I had a cool person to kiss—Corbin's pretty good-looking. But at the same time, it was like, 'Oh my gosh, I'm scared, I'm 12, I'm a little kid, really. So it was a bunch of different things."

Victoria Justice: 'The Suite Life of Zack & Cody'

Victoria's first kiss was with Riverdale's very own Cole Sprouse. And apparently, the experience was pretty chill, despite happening in front of a live audience. As Victoria put it, "My first one was with Cole Sprouse on The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, which is my first guest-starring role in that show. It was actually my first kiss and it was in front of a live audience. So that was cool, and we're still good friends."

Note: This wasn't Cole's first kiss. His first kiss happened in the back of a hearse (so many questions).

Ashley Benson: 'Days of Our Lives'

Ashley told Conan O'Brien that having her first kiss on camera was "very strange." "I had my cousin drive me that day. I didn't want my mom there. I was really nervous," she said. She also noted that the experience was very "technical" and "awkward" and was all in all a "very interesting first kiss."

Mila Kunis: 'That '70s Show'

Mila Kunis's first kiss ever was with the man who would end up being her husband, a.k.a. Ashton Kutcher, a.k.a. Kelso from That '70s Show.

"I was like, ‘Oh, he's so cute, it's the Calvin Klein model!'" Mila told People about their kiss. "Then I was like, 'I have to kiss him?' I was so nervous and uncomfortable. I had the biggest crush on him. Ashton was so nice. He just made jokes and gave me funny little compliments. He made me laugh."

Meanwhile, Ashton had no idea Mila hadn't been kissed before, and said as much to People in 2001. Direct quote: "I'm the first guy she kissed? Oh my god, I had no idea! I'm so glad I didn't know that or it would've been too much pressure. I was so nervous. She acted so cool. She seemed as if she'd done it a thousand times. I was the one with the butterflies in my stomach."

Selena Gomez: 'The Suite Life of Zack & Cody'

Sel told Kelly Clarkson all about her first kiss with Dylan Sprouse (even though it was Cole she had a crush on), saying "I guest starred on the show, but I kissed his brother and I didn't get to kiss Cole. It was my first kiss! On camera!"

Dylan's thoughts on the matter? "Let's see...there's a lot of sad depressing first kiss stories," he joked. "I was a chubby lad, and I wasn't very successful with women for a long time. But I think my first kiss was on a set, and I think it might have been with Selena Gomez."

Dakota Fanning: 'Sweet Home Alabama'

Truly could not tell you why this flashback in Sweet Home Alabama is so dark and moody, but nevertheless, it was the setting of Dakota's first kiss! A deeply nervy moment for her!

"Sweet Home Alabama, the first scene of the movie I play young Reese Witherspoon and that was my first kiss," she told W Magazine. "I was seven years old, he was 10, it was very, you know, it was nerve-wracking."

Danica McKellar and Fred Savage: 'The Wonder Years'

Winnie Cooper and Kevin Arnold's first kiss was Danica McKellar and Fred Savage's first as well, and the story is precious. "It was my first kiss! It was both of our first kiss!" Danica said, laughing. "It was, and we got applause afterwards from the crew, which was really humiliating."

Sadie Sink: 'Stranger Things'

Yup, another Stranger Things star who had their first kiss on camera.

"[My first kiss was] on set for Stranger Things," Sadie confirmed to W Mag. "It was with Caleb McLaughlin, who plays Lucas. We were filming. You can see it on Netflix! We were both awkward, but it was also funny because all our friends were there and all these extras and lights and music. It was nerve-wracking at the time, but I look back now and can laugh about it."

Caleb also chatted about the kiss, saying he was "very nervous." "It was very interesting and entertaining as well," he continued, "because it got me through it, it was, like, 242 extras—I don't really know the numbers—242 extras watching.…And they were also fans of the show and they were caught up in the Eleven and Mike thing going on, too."

Dove Cameron: 'Cloud Nine'

Dove's first kiss was with Luke Benward on Cloud Nine—though technically it happened during the audition process.

"We had to kiss in the audition in order to get the role," she told Seventeen. "I was so shy you guys, so intimidated; and he's like this massive mountain man, even when he was 17."

Jonathan Taylor Thomas: 'Tom and Huck'

Everyone's childhood crush JTT's first kiss was with Rachael Leigh Cook in Tom and Huck—or so director Peter Hewitt has said: "Oh man, he really didn't want to do it. He wanted to know how many times, and from how many angles. It was quite cute. I think it was his first screen kiss."

Jonathan also had plenty to say about this kiss, joking, "I could not believe how many angles Peter wanted. When it was getting up into the thirties in takes, I was, 'You know, my lips are going to fall off pretty soon.' But if I wasn't having a good time doing this, I would not do it. Why would I fall off bridges, and, you know, have to kiss girls if I wasn't having a blast?"

Miranda Cosgrove: 'iCarly'

Miranda had her first kiss with James Maslow on iCarly—when he was lying on a hospital bed, which, lol.

"My first kiss I ever had in my whole life was with James Maslow in the episode where he was in a hospital bed, and I had to kiss him while he was unconscious," she said. "My second kiss I ever had in my entire life was with Nathan on the show. Nathan had, like, a girlfriend or a girl he liked there on set that day watching us kiss."

Anna Chlumsky and MaCaulay Culkin: 'My Girl'

Truly nothing is cuter than Anna Chlumsky and Macaulay Culkin's kiss in My Girl (*runs away crying*), but apparently Macaulay was not here for it.

"I did not want to do that," he told Ellen. "We were friends. We got along, but I was like... 'Ew, a girl! I have to kiss a girl?' At the time I was like, 'This is so embarrassing,' but, you know, you gotta do what you gotta do!"

I mean, they won "Best Kiss" at the MTV Movie Awards and Anna showed up wearing this outfit, so it all worked out in the end.

Hailee Steinfeld: 'She's a Fox'

Hailee told W Magazine that her first kiss was "actually on-screen which I don't consider my first kiss. It was a student thesis graduate film called She’s a Fox and I had to kiss two guys in it and that was a lot for me. I went from kissing one boy to kissing another.”

Also fun fact: "One of the guys, he was shorter than me, so they had to stand on an apple box."

Jesse Eisenberg: 'Rodger Dodger'

Never heard of this movie either, but apparently Jesse had his first kiss during it? An experience he was VERY here for.

"I kissed this great actress Jennifer Beals in a movie called Rodger Dodger," he said. "I was 18 or 19 years old, it was the first movie I got to be in. I got to kiss her, that was before I ever had a girlfriend or had been on a date, so that was a wonderful experience. I don't know that she agrees, but for me it was life-changing."

Vanessa Marano: 'Easy'

Vanessa Marano is perhaps best known for playing Luke's daughter on Gilmore Girls, but her first kiss happened in a project called Easy (no pics, sry!).

"Mine was on camera," she said. "I did an independent film called Easy and I was 10 years old. The characters have their first kiss and it's supposed to be cute and sweet. It's a flashback to the older girl having her first kiss and it's supposed to take place in the '80s, so the way she decides to kiss the boy, is they were watching Madonna’s 'Like a Virgin' video. So, my character leaves while he's watching the video, goes and gets a blonde wig, dresses up like Madonna, and starts singing 'Like a Virgin' to seduce him into a first kiss. Also, the boy did not want to kiss me."

Helena Bonham Carter: 'A Room With a View'

Any period piece girlies in here? Well the ultra-romantic kiss in A Room With a View was actually one of Helena Bonham Carter's very first, a fact she shared with Criterion. "You know the kiss that...everyone loved? That was totally improvised, right at the last minute," she said. "I just knew I had to get to him without falling down. And then not laugh when he kissed me. And it's really hard to kiss someone when you're only eighteen and you haven't done it that many times, too. So it was hard, that was hard."

Katie Holmes: 'Dawson's Creek'

Kay, pretty sure this is Katie talking about her first on-screen kiss vs. her first kiss ever (she was 18 at the time), but either way, she told Conan O'Brien it was—you guessed it—awkward.

"It was a guest star," she said. "It's so awkward because with the first kiss in life you can kind of be like, 'Oh I've got to get home,' or 'Thanks'—you never have to do it with that person again. But on screen, you're going to have lunch and you're probably going to have to work together again tomorrow so it's a little bit… awkward!"

Mayim Bialik and Johnny Galecki: 'Blossom'

Long before they co-stared on The Big Bang Theory, Johnny Galecki was Mayim Bialik's first-ever kiss on Blossom!

"We were both 14. We kissed," Mayim said, adding. "It might have been my first real life kiss also."

Zac Efron: 'Summerland'

Zac's first kiss...or okay, fine, his first TV kiss (it's unclear tbh)...was with Kay Panabaker on Summerland—and unfortunately, he ruined it with a buncha fish.

"Poor Kay Panabaker. At lunch, they served fish," Zac said on The Graham Norton Show. "And next was the kissing scene. I was very nervous. We went in for the kiss. I got up this close. I shut my eyes. I'm ready to go in and nothing happens. I'm going further and nothing's happening. I’m getting further, like, thinking eventually we're going to touch. And then I hear, 'Oh my gosh, did you have salmon for lunch? Seriously?' It ruined my first kiss. Poor Kay, I'm sorry."
