The internet spends a lot of time talking non-stop (guilty 🤪) about the Sussexes and the Cambridges Waleses, but please be advised that the Crown has plenty of other royals lurking around—and the time has come to get to know Princess Eugenie better. You're likely well aware that Princess Eugenie is the daughter of disgraced royal Prince Andrew and his ex-wife Duchess Sarah Ferguson, not to mention cousin to Prince Harry and Prince William. But there's most definitely more to discuss, so let's get into it.
Princess Eugenie Is One of the Few Royals With a Real Non-Royal Job
Unlike her cousins, Princess Eugenie has never been a "working royal." This means she doesn't get paid by the Sovereign Grant (a taxpayer-funded pool of money that covers royal salaries) to show up at engagements. For what it's worth, this wasn't exactly her choice. Back in 2016, it was reported that the Queen herself decided not to make Princess Eugenie and her sister Princess Beatrice working royals, which "bitterly divided" Prince Andrew and then-Prince Charles. As a result, Eugenie has an actual non-royal job (not that she needs one thanks to her trust fund) as the associate director of a London art gallery called Hauser & Wirth.
She Had a Televised Royal Wedding
In case you weren't one of the people who woke up at 4 a.m to watch Princess Eugenie's wedding to Jack Brooksbank, it was televised and extremely fancy. The pair made it official in a celeb-filled ceremony in Windsor, where Princess Charlotte was a flower girl, Princess Beatrice read a passage from The Great Gatsby, Kate Middleton almost had a wardrobe malfunction, and Eugenie called Jack out for not holding her hand (according to lip readers, she literally said "why aren't you holding my hand?"):
Her Wedding Dress Celebrated Her Scar
Princess Eugenie's Peter Pilotto dress was actually designed with a low back specifically to show off her scar, which she got from surgery at the age of 12 to correct her scoliosis. Eugenie has dedicated a lot of time raising awareness about scoliosis and is a patron of the hospital that performed her surgery.
"I think you can change the way beauty is," Eugenie said. "And you can show people your scars and I think it's really special to stand up for that."
She Has a Cute Baby Son
Eugenie and Jack welcomed their son August Philip Hawke Brooksbank back in 2021, and his name has a special meaning. Eugenie explained on Instagram that August is named after his great-grandfather Prince Philip as well as his paternal great-grandfather Hawke. Meanwhile, August was simply a name she and Jack liked.
She's Super Close to Prince Harry
So close, in fact, that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle let Eugenie and Jack live in Frogmore Cottage after they moved to America. Eugenie has also visited the Sussexes since their move to the U.S., and they were spotted laughing together at the Queen's Platinum Jubilee over the summer:
FYI, she's also friendly with both of Harry's most famous ex-girlfriends, Cressida Bonas and Chelsy Davy. They were even invited to her royal wedding.
She's Low-Key Feuding With Prince William and Kate Middleton
Apparently there was some major tension between Princess Eugenie and her cousins over their move to Adelaide Cottage. Turns out Prince Andrew had his eye on the cottage for Eugenie and her family and had been “trying to secure it" for her. However, Wills and Kate swept in, and thanks to their position higher in the royal pecking order, they got priority.
She Lives at a Very Famous Cottage
In her tradition of living in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's old houses, Princess Eugenie and her family are currently residing at Nottingham Cottage—which is on the grounds of Kensington Palace. The cottage has two cozy bedrooms and is where Harry lived while he and Meghan were dating. Prince William and Kate Middleton also lived there when Prince George was a baby before trading up for a giant apartment suite.
She's Known for Her Kinda Wild Fashion
Specifically when it comes to hats. Like, this is what she (and Princess Beatrice) wore to Kate and William's royal wedding:
She Doesn't Love Being Called "Princess"
During an interview with journalist Georgie Greig back in 2008 (via The Express), Eugenie said, “I don’t like talking about it much and find it annoying when people say things like, ‘Oh, you’re the princess.' One of my best friends jokingly says, ‘Hi, princess,’ and I say, ‘Shut up.' It is one of the things that bugs me most in the world.”
She and Jack Met on Vacation
Jack is just a regular person like the rest of us, who happened to fall in love with a royal during a vacation in Switzerland. Eugenie described their meeting as "love at first sight," saying, "We met when I was 20, he was 24. [We] fell in love. We have the same passions and drive for life."
She Has Some Very Famous Friends
I mean, all you have to do is check out her wedding guests for an idea of the crown Eugenie runs with. Like, Cara Delevingne:
Demi Moore and Zac Posen:
Naomi Campbell:
Liv Tyler:
And Ricky Martin:
She's also extremely close to Ellie Goulding—here they are at a basketball game with their husbands in 2017:
