It's Late June. Mammoth Mountain Is Firing.

Mammoth Mountain, California was hit with more than 700 inches (58.33 ft) of snow this past winter. It broke the all-time seasonal record that stood for 12 years.

Thanks to the bountiful snow, Mammoth has extended their season through at least the end of July. Yes. There will be skiing not only on the 4th of July, but for at least three weeks after the holiday.

We went up to Mammoth to check out the incredible snow for ourselves. We were not disappointed. Check out the conditions report below:

Hey. Matt here. That's me in the video above. I felt really awkward making it. Was it awkward? You can be honest.

I did it in one take. I sweated profusely. I said 'f-it', and decided to send it to Trevar who manages Powder's socials. Then voila! my dumb face is saying stuff on Powder Magazine's Instagram page.

Okay. I got all of the self-deprecating talk out of my system.

For real. Like for real, for real... The last few days at Mammoth have been simply unreal. The irony of that sentence is that the fine folks at Visit Mammoth Lakes use the phrase 'The REAL Unreal' as a tag line.

They hit the nail on the head. Let me prove it. Unreal is obviously the opposite of real. So, tell me if any of the following sounds real in regards to the Merriam-Webster definition of, 'occurring or existing in actuality'.

Mammoth Mountain Snow Report On June 26th, 2023:

Base Depth: 58-116 inches

Trails Open: 67/175

Lifts Open: 9/25

Season Snow Total: 715 inches (Main Lodge), 900+ inches (Summit)

Does any of that sound real to you? It shouldn't. The snow is unreal. The weather is unreal. The mountain is unreal. The whole dang place in unreal.

More to come about my unreal time summer skiing at Mammoth Mountain and exploring Mammoth Lakes, California.

Special thanks to Tom Wallisch, Jossi Wells, and Chris Benchetler for making cameos in that video. Skiing with them was also unreal.
