Julie de Libran and Laure Hériard Dubreuil Celebrate Sonia Rykiel’s 50th Anniversary at The Webster
“We’re friends and fans,” beamed Laure Hériard Dubreuil, proprietress of posh retailer The Webster, talking about the artistic director of Sonia Rykiel, Julie de Libran. The newly opened Soho townhouse was the site of Sonia Rykiel’s 50th-anniversary bash and, already, De Libran was scoping out the wares. “Julie was one of the first clients of The Webster in Miami,” added Dubreuil, pointing to a diamond ring on De Libran’s finger, acquired during the infancy of the haute retailer’s reign in Miami. “I wear it a lot,” said De Libran. “It’s lucky!”
That luck appears to have worked for half a century, as last night also celebrated De Libran’s anniversary collection, Manifesto, an homage to the literary roots of the Rykiel label. “For me, it’s Laure’s eye and how she selects things and puts them together,” said De Libran on her fondness for the boutique’s aesthetic. As for how two French girls wound up in New York? “It was meant to happen,” said Dubreuil, wearing an animal-print frock by Rykiel.
