Julie Andrews on What It Was Really Like Filming Flying Scenes for Mary Poppins

A spoonful of sugar can help with most things in life, but not everything. If you're Julie Andrews, it sure won't dissolve your fear of flying through the air when filming for Mary Poppins.

Yesterday, Julie Andrews sat down with Savannah Guthrie to promote her new memoir, Home Work. In the segment, the dame and beloved actor shed some new light about what it was really like to film flying scenes for Mary Poppins. As Andrews reveals, they saved it for the end "in case of an accident." Andrews takes viewers back to being on the set for the hit 1964 film, explaining, "I felt myself, on the last day, I suddenly thought, 'Oh, I wonder if my luck is going to run out' and I was up hanging up there and I felt myself drop by about six inches and I called and said, 'Could you let me down easily when I come?' at which point I plummeted to the ground." Thankfully, the star was on a balancing weight so her fall was cushioned, "but it was a shock, that's for sure."

In the interview, we also learn more interesting behind-the-scenes trivia from the movie, such as the fact that it is Andrews' herself whistling in the "Spoonful of Sugar" song in the film.
