Julianne Hough Opens Up About Her Injuries From a “Death-Defying” Dance Trick on Instagram

Julianne Hough is not only talented but a fearless performer.

This week, Julianne resurfaced a performance clip on Instagram from her 2019 NBC Christmas special Holidays With the Houghs. The TV special was hosted by Julianne and her brother, Derek Hough, who both performed jaw-dropping musical dance numbers. In this particular clip, Julianne can be seen on roller skates singing and dancing to the Christmas song “The Man With the Bag.”

While Julianne’s dedication to her craft is clear, many were previously unaware of the toll the impressive routine took on the former Dancing With the Stars judge’s body. During her performance, which Emmy-winning choreographer Tessandra Chavez put together, Julianne attempted what she called a “death-defying trick” that was just as scary as it sounds. For the stunt, Julianne’s partner held her ankles and spun her around rapidly in circles. Later, she was tossed up and dropped to the ground quickly without hitting the floor.

As it turns out, the trick resulted in Julianne bursting blood vessels and capillaries in her head. In the caption of the Instagram post, Julianne wrote: “First time putting on roller skates let alone dancing in them, did a death defying trick, burst blood vessels and capillaries in my head doing it (check out my stories) and of course had the best time and would do it all over again in a heartbeat!”

Julianne’s fans immediately showered the dancer with compliments while also expressing concern. “OMG that scared me so bad. My heart jumped into my throat! You are super brave! I would never do that, let alone trust someone enough to do those tricks with 🤯,” one fan wrote in the comments section of the post. “😮 omg your head was way too close to the floor for my comfort! 😂”

Earlier in the week, Julianne also shared another dance from Holidays With the Houghs on Instagram—although based on what she explained in the caption, it doesn’t sound like she sustained similar injuries.

Needless to say, Julianne is truly amazing.
