Julianne Hough’s new chin-length bob is inspired by Claire Danes in My So-Called Life

By now, the bob is certainly the celeb haircut of 2019, and it seems like it’s about to be all the rage as we roll into the new year, too. With plenty of variations on the bob haircut, it seems that celebs are actually looking to the past as they shear their strands. Julianne Hough recently chopped her long bob into a shorter look inspired by some of our favorite ‘90s hair icons.

Hough’s stylist, Riawna Capri, of Los Angeles-based salon Nine Zero One, gave her the fresh cut, and it’s giving us throwback feelings. She shared four photos of her client’s brand new, chin-length bob, revealing in a press release that she was inspired by Claire Danes in My So-Called Life and Winona Ryder in Reality Bites for the ’90s-chic look. Capri described the look as a “simple, chic, thick, blunt, classic bob—but the modern twist is in the way you style it to not be super perfect with a little flare.”

The center part and flipped-in ends make it feel perfectly ’90s but with a totally 2020 twist, thanks to its slightly messy, textured vibes.

We have a feeling Angela Chase and Lelaina Pierce would approve of Hough’s bob cut.

Capri revealed that this look is a first for Hough. She wrote, “We’ve never done the blunt chic bob one length in over 10 years of working together! I love that we can continue to do something new even after all this time together.”

Followers took to the comments section of her post to point out that the look is also reminiscent of a few other ’90s hair queens. One commenter wrote of the look, “This is giving me Sabrina the Teenage Witch Melissa Joan Hart vibes.” Another said, “So cute. Has that Drew Barrymore vibe from Wedding Singer!!”

Singer Natasha Bedingfield even wrote of the cut, “Iconic! This feels like it will he called the ‘Julianne’ like the much coveted ‘Rachel’ in the ’90s.”

We can’t wait to see more of Julianne’s new cropped cut. And as for us, we’ll be going through our old magazines and VHS tapes for our next haircut inspiration. Because, as is always the case, what’s old is new again…and we’re all about bringing the ’90s back in any way we can.
