Julia Roberts Made a Statement on the Toronto Film Festival Red Carpet
While a long-sleeved gown is certainly timeless in nature, it promises a certain quiet elegance, it doesn’t always have to be as so. Julia Roberts, who attended the Toronto Film Festival for her new film, Ben Is Back, this weekend, proved the covered silhouette can indeed be impactful and fun—and can even offer up a serious statement, too. It’s a look that celebrities have been embracing as of late, with Priyanka Chopra also choosing a long-sleeved Ralph Lauren gown earlier this week. Are vampy gowns and cocktail dresses on the outs? All signs point to yes.
Paying homage to the film festival’s Canadian roots, Roberts chose a peekaboo gown design by Dsquared2, run by the Canadian twins Dean and Dan Caten. The choice was a departure for Roberts, though definitely in line with her love of black. It worked here. The black, floor length dress featured exaggerated shoulder pads, as well as tasteful cutouts on each side. Its mid-length sleeves also helped refresh the classic silhouette, giving it a less reserved feel. The actress accessorized with simple Jimmy Choo heels and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.
