Five weeks after the death of Matthew Perry, his one-time girlfriend Julia Roberts is opening up about his "heartbreaking" loss.

The Pretty Woman star broke her silence on the Friends alum's passing in a new interview with Entertainment Tonight's Kevin Frazier, noting, "The sudden passing of anybody so young is heartbreaking."

Perry was just 54 years old when he seemingly drowned at home in his jacuzzi, though his cause of death is still pending.

"I think that, you know, it just helps all of us just appreciate what we have and to keep going in a positive way as best we can," she added.

Roberts guest-starred on an episode of the hit sitcom in 1996, where she played a childhood classmate of Perry's character, Chandler Bing.

"They were all so welcoming to me as just a kind of a one-off character and it was a really fun time," she described the occasion, explaining that she has "all good thoughts and feelings" about her brief stint on the series.

The pair began dating shortly after she was booked for the role, though their coupling didn't last long; Perry opened up about the demise of their relationship in his 2022 memoir, explaining that he was too insecure to keep seeing her, ultimately ending things.

"Instead of facing the inevitable agony of losing her, I broke up with the beautiful and brilliant Julia Roberts," he wrote. "She might have considered herself slumming it with a TV guy, and TV guy was now breaking up with her. I can’t begin to describe the look of confusion on her face."
