Julia Fox's Scarlet Leather Gown Was Literally Unraveling

It was actually a swirling red optical illusion.

No stranger to making a statement with her clothes (she recently underwent a polygraph test where she admitted to suffering for a good photo), Julia Fox's latest outfit could be her most eyebrow-raising yet — which says a lot considering she recently wore a tiny metal bikini to New York Fashion Week.

During last night's Room to Grow gala in New York City, Fox wore a red leather dress that appeared to be unraveling as it traveled down her body. The swirl of crimson revealed swathes of the actress's skin, with the continuous cutout starting at her hip (the bodice seemed simple but included a corset) and spiraling down her legs. She wore a pair of skin-colored underwear beneath the column dress and topped it off with a coordinating coat.

Keeping to the all-red theme (perhaps an homage to the Big Apple or an apple being peeled?), Fox wore her hair in red curls and wore a rusty red lip color to finish the look. She also coordinated her pointy-toed pumps to the ensemble.

Room to Grow's gala, which was a major milestone celebrating 25 years of charity work, honored donors and ambassadors of the organization, which assists “families living in low-income circumstances raising young ones in New York and Boston,” per the organization’s official site. Elaine Welteroth, Matthew Morrison, Aja Naomi King, and Kelly Osbourne celebrated alongside Fox.

During her Vanity Fair lie detector test, Fox was asked whether or not she believed Kim Kardashian took style inspiration from her. The two stars famously wore the same Jean Paul Gaultier illusion dress, Kim in 2018 and Fox in 2021. They've also both worn the same Versace outfits.

“I would say that there have been some looks that are a little similar to mine," Fox explained. She did note that they're just two women who love fashion, though, saying, “But I feel like, you know, it’s just what’s trending. I don’t know if I’m on her mood board or anything like that.”

Before the release of her memoir, Down the Drain, Fox mentioned to the Los Angeles Times that she felt that her ex, Kanye West, was "weaponizing" her against Kardashian as a form of retribution.

“I thought ultimately I’d be helping a precarious situation … get him off Kim’s case," she shared. “But I very quickly learned that I was being weaponized.”
