A New Julia Child TV Show Is Heading to HBO Max

It's no secret that Julia Child is one of the most impressive chefs of our time and while we think we know everything about her as fans (I mean who doesn't know all of her most memorable moments by heart?!), HBO Max is here to prove us wrong. Now, almost 60 years after the debut of her iconic cooking show The French Chef, the late celebrity chef will be back on our TV screens, but this time as a character in a show based on her incredible life.
Titled Julia, the show is set to be one "inspired by Julia Child's extraordinary life and her long-running television series." The new series will also explore "an evolving time in American history—the emergence of public television as a new social institution, feminism and the women's movement, the nature of celebrity and America's cultural growth. At its heart, the series, is a portrait of a loving marriage with an evolving and complicated power dynamic."
Now, of course, the show—which saw Daniel Goldfarb (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) tapped to write the pilot episode and Charles McDougall (House of Cards) as director—won't feature Child's herself, but it will star two-time British Academy Television Award winner Sarah Lancashire in the titular role. Other cast members will include David Hyde Pierce in the role of her husband—Paul, Fran Kranz, Brittany Bradford, Fiona Glascott, Bebe Neuwirth, Isabella Rossellini, and Jefferson Mays.
Although there isn't a set air date for the series quite yet, the eight-episode inaugural season (yes, they plan to have more than one if you love it!) will air as a Max Original. Production, however, has reportedly already begun and is scheduled to pick back up during the late spring months in Boston. So, if you're in the area, you may be able to get a peek at what's going on.

This show's look into her life, marriage, and trailblazing career as she transformed the way we talk about food is an absolute delight," Sarah Aubrey, head of original content for HBO Max, stated in the official announcement. "Our incredible cast and formidable creative team are a recipe for success, and we couldn't be more excited."
If your love for cooking shows just began over the last decade or so, it's important to note that it's because of the celebrated chef's show, The French Chef, that the now popular genre of cooking shows exist and have been so successful. So if you're a self-proclaimed top tier home chef like me (*dusts shoulders and pops collar*), you'll definitely want to tune in and hopefully get some pointers on how to dominate in the kitchen.
