Julia Berit Recreated Hilary Duff's Viral Nude Photoshoot, And I'm Cry

Hilary Duff blew people away when she posed naked for the May/June 2022 issue of Women’s Health. One of them was longtime fan and model Julia Berit—who decided to recreate the shoot herself.

“I’ve been a massive Hilary Duff fan since I can remember,” Julia told WomensHealthMag.com. “When I first saw the shoot, I thought, ‘This is stunning.’”

But, Julia, who wears a size 14, says she kept thinking about the shoot and its impact on people. “The more I thought about it, the more I wondered how it would look with a body like mine,” she says.

So, Julia decided to recreate the shoot with the help of a few friends—and she shared the results in an Instagram post that’s gone viral. In it, Julia mimics all of Duff’s poses in the nude, nailing everything from the way the light hit her face to the angle of her body.

“There is no ‘before and after’ or comparison happening here, just the celebration of different bodies being EXACTLY as they are!” she wrote in the caption. “We as women have been trained by the media to pick apart our flaws and be on an endless search for ways to ‘fix’ our bodies. to mold them into something they may have never meant to be in the first place. But what if we EMBRACED those differences instead of trying to mold them into all being the same!”

She posted another series of snaps from her shoot, captioning the Instagram post: "You deserve to feel bold + brave + beautiful in your own skin."

People flooded the comments of Julia’s posts with praise. “Absolutely incredible and BEAUTIFULLY done,” one wrote. “I endorse ALL OF THIS AND I AM SO OBSESSED WITH YOU!!😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️” another said.

Julia says the experience of posing nude was “scary at first” but she made sure to work with three friends who are women—makeup artist Amanda Holley, photographer Sydney Ness, and tanning artist Amelia Wohl. “I’d never shot anything nude before and didn’t ever think I would,” Julia says. “But I really wanted to recreate this.”

But Julia says she eventually warmed up to the experience. “After 15 minutes I was like, ‘OK, we’re good,’” she says.

Julia says the positive reception to her shoot has been “really cool,” although she points out there are “definitely some negative people saying some very fatphobic things, which is unfortunate.”

Overall, though, Julia says she heard from women who said they feel represented by her shoot. “It’s truly a life-changing experience getting to talk to these women,” she says.

Julia says she’s not sure if she’ll pose naked again.

“I’ll never say never, but I just felt really inspired by this shoot,” she says. “I also had realistic expectations of what I was going to look like. If I thought I was going to look like Hilary Duff, I would have been in a weird headspace. I just allowed myself to celebrate the experience.”
