It sounds like Taylor Sheridan is making Yellowstone’s return worth the wait.

After an extensive delay, production on the final installment of Yellowstone is set finally to resume in late spring. And according to Josh Lucas, fans might be getting more than anticipated from the Duttons.

In a recent red carpet interview with Deadline, Lucas hinted that the second half of season five could include four more episodes than the six that were originally reported.

"I did text Taylor [Sheridan] a couple of months back and said, 'Hey man, I’ve loved working on the show so much'. He’s like, 'well we’ll be back',” Lucas recalled. “I think we're going to do 10 or so more episodes and wrap up the story."

That’s a whole season’s worth of episodes!

Lucas plays a younger John Dutton (Kevin Costner) in flashback scenes of the Paramount hit. The Sweet Home Alabama star brings John, as a father dealing with the loss of his wife, to life in painful detail.

Deadline previously reported that there were “no plans” for Costner to return to Yellowstone for its final chapter, though writer Nellie Andreeva admitted that “anything is possible.”

According to Costner, it was a “long, hard-fought negotiation” about splitting season five into two parts that spurred his decision to prematurely leave Yellowstone. Scheduling conflicts with his own Western epic, the four-part movie series Horizon: An American Saga, a “passion project” that he famously took out a mortgage to fund, proved too much to overcome.

Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1 is set to premiere in theaters on June 28, 2024. Chapter 2 will follow quickly, hitting theaters August 16, 2024.

“With Costner unlikely to return to help finish the story, Sheridan may lean more than anticipated on flashbacks to give a sense of completion to John Dutton's story,” Chris McPherson speculated for Collider.

If that’s the case, we’ll be seeing a lot more of Lucas when Yellowstone comes back to Paramount at the end of 2024.
