2012's The Amazing Spider-Man role ultimately went to Andrew Garfield, but not for lack of trying on the part of Josh Hutcherson.

The Five Nights at Freddy’s and Hunger Games star recently described his failed audition to Wired.

"One of my friends who had been my stunt double for a few movies, he and I went down to this stunt training gym called 8711, and we decided to shoot me doing some Spider-Man stunts. I didn't get it, but the crazy thing was like, I think a month after that, I got cast in Hunger Games."

Hutcherson might have came up short because The Amazing Spider-Man filmmakers were looking for an actor, not a stuntman. Still, it worked out well in the end.

The actor gained worldwide fame playing Peeta Mellark in The Hunger Games, before going on to star in 2023 box office hit, Five Nights at Freddy’s. Here's our Five Nights at Freddy's review roundup.

Garfield, meanwhile, is still playing Spider-Man over a decade since his debut appearance. Watch Hutcherson recount the audition below.
