Jordan Brand Announces New Partnerships for Its Black Community Commitment

Jordan Brand has announced its newest partners for its Black Community Commitment (BCC), a program it launched in 2020 for $100 million worth of grants over a ten-year period.

The new organizations that will receive funding are The Blackhouse Foundation, ColorCreative, The Opportunity Agenda, and Storycorps. Jordan Brand celebrated the additions to its program through Breaking Bread, a two-day community gathering in New York City that also included existing partners such as the Ida B. Wells Society for Investigative Journalism and Morehouse College.

The Blackhouse Foundation is a non-profit that creates opportunities for the Black community within the film industry. Co-founded by Issa Rae and Deniese Davis, ColorCreative is a management and production company that focuses on working with women and people of color. The Opportunity Agenda is a social justice communication lab that works on “challenging and replacing dominant narratives” such as white supremacy and patriarchy. With its own focus on narratives, StoryCorps is non-profit focused on storytelling from a diverse range of Americans.

“The Black community has been the guardian of its own history for centuries in America, so this was an important moment for us to honor the tradition of storytelling that has protected this heritage, used change to heal and inspire joy, and celebrated the spirit of family that continues to advance the mission of the Jordan Black Community Commitment,” Sarah Mensah, Jordan Brand president, said in a press release.

Since launching the BCC in 2020, Jordan Brand has regularly announced new recipients for its grants in four key focus areas: economic justice, education, narrative change and social justice.

Applications for Jordan BCC’s 2024 grant slate are now being accepted through Dec. 16. To qualify, an organization must be a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, have an annual operating budget of less than $3 million, and have been established in 2021 or prior.
