Joplin Humane Society celebrates successful adoption weekend

JOPLIN, Mo. — A busy weekend has wrapped up for the Joplin Humane Society.

Their Dog Days of Summer Adopt-a-thon concluded today.

Shelter officials say as of 3:00 p.m., 26 cats and 24 dogs were adopted out over the last three days.

They say this year’s event brought a bit of a lower adoption rate than in previous years, but they’re still thrilled to see animals find their “fur-ever” homes.

Looking ahead, the shelter’s kennel manager told us that their cat lounge will soon return to the Northpark Mall next month.

“You can come out, hang out with the kitten, you can even adopt a cat there. But, you don’t have to adopt a cat. You pay a $5 donation and you can come in and hang out and you can sit and read with them. You can pet them and just sit and hang out and bring your kids. It’s a great time for everybody,” said Andy Logan, JHS Kennel Manager.

Andy Logan says the Humane Society’s cat lounge will be open through the month of June.
