Jonathan Van Ness Shares His Top Tricks for Smooth, Shiny Hair

Whether he's stealing the show in a strapless LBD at the Emmys, officiating a wedding in celebration of Pride month or gliding across the ice with Michelle Kwan, Jonathan Van Ness is rarely seen without an impeccably coifed mane. With long, lush, flowing locks that gleam and shine at every turn and flip, Queer Eye's resident grooming expert is—without a doubt—our number one hair crush. (Sorry, Alexa Chung. You've officially been dethroned.)

We sat down with Van Ness recently to celebrate his partnership with Zumba and though topics ranged from his favorite song to dance to (Lizzo's "Truth Hurts," in case you were wondering) and his power color (green), the conversation quickly turned to his beautiful head of hair.

He credits Shu Uermura's Wonder Worker Air Dry Multitasking Primer, for "laying down [his] frog hair without weighing it down." Though he was careful to note that he sprays it "away from the scalp" and "only on mid-lengths and ends."

JVN is also a big proponent of not over-washing your strands, sleeping with your hair up in a "loose, no-tension topknot," and investing in a silk scrunchie and pillowcase to prevent any frizz or snags while you sleep.
