Jonathan Scott and Zooey Deschanel Revisited The Hilarious Mix-Up That Almost Derailed Their First Date

Zooey Deschanel and Jonathan Scott seem like they were destined to be together—but even true love has its awkward moments.

After hitting it off on an episode of "Carpool Karaoke" last August, the couple went on their first date, and apparently there was a bit of confusion.

"He said, 'Are you bringing people?' and I was like, 'No, just me,' " Zooey recalls now with a laugh. "And then I was like, 'Should I bring people? Should I call my sister?'"

Fortunately the couple got through the mix-up, and the rest is history.

During a recent episode of Jonathan's brother's podcast, "At Home with Linda & Drew Scott," the adorable couple opened up about the early days of their relationship and their meet-cute on "Carpool Karaoke," where they appeared alongside their siblings, Bones actress Emily Deschanel and fellow Property Brother Drew Scott.

"I thought I was playing it cool. I didn't think anything of it. The producer said I was flirting so bad, so hard, they had to cut a bunch of that out," Jonathan recalled.

The attraction was mutual. Zooey admitted that she had been flirting too—and that she had been a big Property Brothers fan even before she met Jonathan.

"I wasn’t creeping on you or anything," Zooey insisted, leading Drew to joke that she used to send him "weird stalkery Twitter posts."

These days, Zooey and Jonathan seem more in love than ever. The actress and singer celebrated her boyfriend's birthday on Tuesday with a sweet Instagram photo showing her giving him a kiss on the cheek.

"This amazing person makes me truly happy every single day and fills my life with love and joy. Happy birthday @mrsilverscott! You are one of a kind wonderful," she wrote. "So happy I get to make your birthday cake."
