I don't know about you, but when I have a crush on somebody, I make sure I know every little detail about that person. Leave it to me to find out that person's favorite music and shows as well as familiarize myself with every photo on his or her Instagram profile (plus the ones they were tagged in, obvi). While I have never dated a celebrity (yet!!!), I imagine that if I was trying to court a famous Hollywood star, I'd at least check out their most well-known work. As it turns out, Property Brothers' Jonathan Scott was still able to win Zooey Deschanel's heart over despite knowing very little about her work.

On the latest podcast of At Home With Linda and Drew Scott, hosted by Jonathan's brother Drew Scott and wife Linda Phan, Jonathan and Zooey guest starred to discuss their relationship. "I remember hearing She & Him songs on the radio or at a restaurant and I never knew that was you," Jonathan says about Zooey's indie musical duo with M. Ward. He continues “It’s the same with New Girl. I had never seen New Girl until we started dating."

Now if you ask me, it's a pretty bold move to ask a woman out when you've never watched an episode of her extremely popular series New Girl in your entire life (c’mon man, all seven seasons are on Netflix!). But I’ll give credit where it’s due: maybe their connection was just so instant, their public lives didn't come up in discussion, and they just wanted to learn more about the individuals they are off screen—which is also pretty sweet.

"I finished the series yesterday," Jonathan continues, now well-versed in the adorkable shenanigans of Zooey and her three male roommates. “True love is driving five hours only to see your love for one, or watching their whole show," he says.

Now, you’re probably wondering if Zooey Deschanel watched the Property Brothers before dating Jonathan. The 40-year-old actress admits that she had watched the series; however, Linda Phan pries a little more, asking if she had watched every single episode. "I’ve not watched every [episode]," Zooey answers with a laugh. “I think [Jonathan would] be like, ‘Uh, weird.’ But I liked the show before I met you guys and always enjoyed watching it. Then after we started dating, I’m like, ‘Is it weird that I still like to watch the show?’ If I’m on a plane and there’s Property Brothers there, that’s what I’m going to watch," she says. In my opinion, that's some major bonus points for Zooey!

Jonathan and Zooey started dating in September of 2019, after first meeting in August, 2019 while filming an episode of Carpool Karaoke: The Series (which you can catch here). During the episode, Drew announces that the brother’s favorite Christmas movie is Elf, so at least we can confirm that the Scott brothers were somewhat familiar with Zooey’s on-screen presence. Jonathan even playfully nudges Zooey to perform the “shower song” (aka Baby It’s Cold Outside), which she sang in the movie.

While their romance might not have started like most—Zooey had finalized her divorce from Jacob Pechenik just a week before making it official with Jonathan—it seems to be going extremely well. The pair has been enjoying each other’s company while social distancing together — Zooey even gave Jonathan a quarantine haircut and dye job. Not to mention, that Jonathan and Zooey have been passing time while replying to fans texts. You can get Jonathan's digits here, and Zooey's number here.
