Jonathan Anderson, the creative mastermind behind the influential labels JW Anderson and Loewe, has been enlisted to design the costumes for the highly anticipated film Challengers, directed by Luca Guadagnino. The movie stars Zendaya, who even skipped the 2022 Met Gala to fully commit to her role as a talented tennis pro caught in a complex and passionate love triangle.

In the recently released trailer, audiences catch a glimpse of the intense romantic dynamics between Zendaya's character and her co-stars, Josh O'Connor and Mike Faist, who portray fellow tennis players with intertwined romantic histories.

Reportedly, the Challengers team approached Anderson to lead the costume design for his avant-garde approach and ability to push creative boundaries. The designer even celebrated his involvement by showcasing what appeared to be Challengers merchandise, which Zendaya and Anderson donned during the Loewe Spring/Summer 2023 show.

Guadagnino, renowned for his visually striking films like Suspiria and Call Me By Your Name, has a history of collaborating with esteemed designers. Previous collaborations include working with Raf Simons on films such as I Am Love and A Bigger Splash, which received acclaim for their remarkable costumes.

Guadagnino has also directed short films for luxury brands like Zegna, Dior, Fendi and Jil Sander. Notably, he collaborated with Raf Simons during Simons' tenures at Jil Sander and Dior. In 2019, he directed The Staggering Girl, featuring stars such as Mia Goth and Julianne Moore, for Valentino.
