As the UCI’s website updates its rider rosters for the year, one name stuck out: Jonas Vingegaard Rasmussen was no more. Instead, the two-time Tour de France winner has dropped his previous last name in favor of his wife Trine Marie Vingegaard Hansen’s last name, making him officially Jonas Vingegaard Hansen. The news comes a little too late to celebrate as adorable Valentine’s Day content, but nonetheless, we’re loving it.

According to the Twitterverse, swapping the family name for his wife’s last name is a fairly common practice. And to get even more impressively matriarchal, his parents were Claus Christian Rasmussen and Karina Vingegaard Rasmussen, so while he dropped his father’s surname, he kept his mother’s! Vingegaard-Hansen and his wife also share a daughter, Frida, who was born in 2020.

If you’re worried that this is going to throw off your understanding of who’s leading a race, don’t expect announcers to use Hansen regularly when referring to him in races, since typically it’s dropped. (Case in point: Bet you didn’t know his actual last name before the switch was Vingegaard Rasmussen!)

This is good news, because frankly, moving from remembering his team name as Jumbo Visma to the new Visma | Lease a Bike team is already tricky enough.

Naturally, Twitter also had some less-than-pleasant responses to the idea that a man could (gasp!) take his wife’s last name, but well leave them unsaid and instead, leave you with this adorable picture of the two of them:
