The Jonas Brothers' 'I Believe' Lyrics Are Nick's Tribute to Priyanka Chopra and Their Whirlwind Romance
Priyanka Chopra just became the recipient of her own Jonas Brothers love song tonight on the boys' Happiness Begins album. Months before it came out, Billboard revealed which track Priyanka and Nick Jonas's romance really inspired: "I Believe."
The slow jam is about just knowing someone is the one even if people think you're crazy to move so fast in that relationship. That idea truly reflects Nick and Priyanka's real-life experience, with lyrics like: "Call me crazy / People saying that we move too fast / But I've been waiting, and for a reason / Ain’t no turning back / 'Cause you show me something I can't live without / I believe, I believe, I believe."
For real-life context, the two got together in May last year and got engaged in July after years of on-off talking and buildup to their first date. As the two recounted to Vogue, Nick proposed on the midnight after Chopra's birthday."I got down on one knee, again, and I said: Will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?” Nick said. “No joke-she took about 45 seconds. Forty-five seconds of silence.” Nick then told her, "I’m going to put this ring on your finger now unless you have any objections.”
Nick even told Vogue that he felt like he and Priyanka had already been together in past lives. He said he felt like they were on their third or fourth now, but “I’ll take seven more.” (He alludes to this in the lyric, "Every night / Every day / How about every lifetime.")
Nick and Priyanka moved fast, sure, but their connection was powerful enough to calm all their doubts. Priyanka spoke before about how she nearly got cold feet before the wedding, then she saw Nick.
