Sound the trumpets! The king has returned to his throne. After a yearlong effort to find Trevor Noah's replacement at The Daily Show, the political commentary series will once again give the reins to the man who made the show what it is today: Jon Stewart. On Monday nights, he'll cover the 2024 presidential election, with a rotating group of correspondents filling out the remainder of the week.

"Friends. After much reflection I have decided to enter the transfer portal for my last year of eligibility," Stewart joked on X (formerly known as Twitter). "Excited for the future! 5'7" ish 165 14.8 second 40 #Blessed #NILBABY #TDSnation #LFGM"

Stewart will return to the show on February 12, with Ronny Chieng, Jordan Klepper, Michael Kosta, Desi Lydic, and Dulcé Sloan staying on the lineup as well. Stewart previously spent 16 seasons as host of The Daily Show, before leaving in 2015 and giving the job to comedian Trevor Noah. In the years after, he signed various media deals, including a canceled project at HBO and an Apple TV+ series titled The Problem with Jon Stewart, which only lasted two seasons. According to The New York Times, Stewart left The Problem due to creative differences over how to cover China and the growth of artificial intelligence.

“Jon Stewart is the voice of our generation, and we are honored to have him return to Comedy Central’s The Daily Show to help us all make sense of the insanity and division roiling the country as we enter the election season," Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, told The Hollywood Reporter. "In our age of staggering hypocrisy and performative politics, Jon is the perfect person to puncture the empty rhetoric and provide much-needed clarity with his brilliant wit."

Many former correspondents were reportedly up for the gig, including Hasan Minhaj, Jordan Klepper, Al Madrigal, Michelle Wolf, and Roy Wood Jr. Frequent guest host Kal Penn was also a frontrunner. But if it ain't broke? Don't fix it. The Daily Show won three Peabody Awards and 24 Primetime Emmy Awards with Stewart at the helm. Now, he's primed to right the ship once again.
