Jon Stewart announced the tragic passing of his beloved shelter dog 'Dipper' in a The Daily Show segment that aired last night.

The three-legged rescue brindle Pit Bull was adopted by the Stewart family after they decided to host a bake sale to raise money for the Animal Haven shelter in NYC.

Stewart explained that when his kids were around six or seven years old they set up a table outside the shelter with some cupcakes on it and the shelter decided to bring out the young dog who had been hit by a car in Brooklyn and had lost its leg.

Stewart  breaks down when he explains that they left with the pup who they named Dipper. Stewart explains that Dipper came to The Daily Show every day and he was part of the OG Daily Show dog crew. He explained that Dipper met actors and authors and presidents and kings.

He sadly said, "Dipper passed away yesterday. He was ready. He was tired. But I wasn't."

Stewart heartbreakingly concluded the video by saying , "My wish for you is one day you find that dog, that one dog… It’s just… It’s the best."

It's such a touching video because you can tell how much Dipper meant to Stewart and his family. Losing a dog is something that someone never gets over, but in time it does get a bit easier and even though you will always be sad, the sadness becomes filled with all the happy memories you shared with what was essentially a beloved member of your family. Dogs give us so much joy and love and fill our lives with so much happiness and losing one is just devastating.

Ways To Honor Your Beloved Dog That Has Passed

Losing a dog is one of the most heartbreaking experiences a pet owner can ever have, and there are many ways you can commemorate the life your precious pup lived and all the joy and love they brought you.

Certain parks have a rainbow bridge where dog owners can place the collar or tags of a dog that has passed. This is a lovely way you can remember your pup and pay homage to all the other beloved dogs who have passed.

You can plant a memorial garden in your yard and place a stone or path marker with your pups name on it.

You can create a memory book filled with beautiful photos of your dog.

You can light a candle in your dog's honor on their birthday, holidays, or whenever it brings you comfort.

You can adopt or foster a dog in honor or your pet, or make a donation in their name to your local animal shelter or Humane Society.

Our hearts go out to everyone who is mourning the loss of their precious dog, and to Jon Stewart who loved sweet Dipper so much.
