Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen: The Complete Relationship Timeline
The latest season of Game of Thrones brought us the car wreck of a relationship that is Jonerys-you’re not really sure you want to be watching it but can’t look away. In just a few not-so-short episodes, Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow went from total strangers to hookup buddies (looks like Jon isn’t the only one bending the knee), all the while not realizing that Dany is actually Jon’s aunt.
Here is a complete list of every tense, sweet, and straight up uncomfy moment between Dany and Jon is Season 7.
Dany invites Jon to Dragonstone
Daenerys receives an unexpected visit from Red Priestess Melisandre where she tells Dany she believes her to be the Prince that was Promised. Well, either her or Jon Snow (Melisandre hasn’t been super reliable with her predictions, so better to cast the net wide this time?) Melisandre and Tyrian convince her to to summon the King of the North with a letter asking him to come to Dragonstone and bend the knee. Sansa and the other northern Lords aren’t too happy with the idea, but Jon decides to go anyway.
The first meeting
Jon and Sir Davos make it to Dragonstone and things don’t go so smoothly at first for the soon-to-be lovers. During their icy encounter, classic Dany once again demands the Jon bends the knee, which he refuses to do. Instead, he breaks down the whole terrifying Night King/white walker situation for her and asks for her help. Seeing that Dany is still skeptical, Davos gives an impassioned speech about what a good guy Jon is, and accidentally lets it slip that Jon took a knife to the heart and is somehow still alive, but Dany still isn’t having it.
Dany agrees to let Jon mine the dragonglass
At their first meeting alone, Dany and Jon bicker back and forth the way only relatives could. But she ultimately agrees to let Jon and his men mine the dragonglass from the caves. Maybe we didn’t realize it at the time but this meeting at sunset, overlooking the water, was kind of romantic.
Jon and Dany explore her caves
Dany and Missandei are having some good ol’ fashion girl talk about Missandei’s sexual escapades with Grey Worm as Dany is walking over to meet Jon-foreshadow much? Before he starts mining, Jon brings Dany down into the caves to show her the cave paintings put there by the Children of the Forest, telling the story of how they joined forces with humans to defeat the white walkers centuries ago. Dany says she will give Jon her armies to fight, but only if he bends the knee, which of course he refuses. As they’re exiting the cave, Tyrion tells Dany that they’ve lost Dorne and Highgarden to Euron. Dany, surprisingly, turns to Jon for advise-the first sign she’s starting to trust him. Jon tells her not to conquer with fire and destruction, otherwise she’ll just be like everyone else.
Dany returns from battle
Fresh off the battlefield, Dany flies back to Dragonstone on Drogon and lands near Jon on the edge of a cliff. Jon reaches out to pet the dragon while Dany looks on, seeming pretty impressed. Apparently watching someone get along with your dragon-child is a turn on. Dany tells Jon that she crushed it on the battlefield and tries to get more information on the whole “got stabbed in the heart and didn’t die” thing, which Jon brushes off, saying Davos gets carried away sometimes.
They agree to capture a White Walker
During a war council meeting, Jon again asks Dany to allow her army to join him, but Dany is worried Cersei will swoop in if she moves her men north. They eventually agree to bring a white walker back from beyond the wall to show Cersei and ask for a temporary truce until the army of the dead is defeated. When Jon says he’s going to lead the raid, Dany starts to show she’s starting to catch some feels and puts up a bit of a protest.
Dany saves the day
After Jon and his team get surrounded by white walkers and wights, our badass Khaleesi swoops in with her dragons to save everyone-well, almost everyone. Viserion gets shot down by the Night King (and eventually gets turns into the kinda-terrifying-kinda-cool undead dragon) and Jon gets left behind after being tackled and pushed underwater by a group of wights.
Jon makes it out alive
Dany is longingly waiting for Jon to return from a tower at Eastwatch and when he shows up on horseback, she’s visibly relieved. While in his bed, Dany comes into the room and finally sees his scars from being stabbed by his brothers in the Night’s Watch. Dany comes back later and pledges to fight the Night King, having now seen him with her own eyes. Jon thanks her, bends the knee to her, and even calls her “Dany.” The only other people to call her that were her brothers, but I guess nephews are allowed too. The two hold hands for a minute before Dany leaves to let him rest.
They meet with Cersei
Dany, Jon and their crew take the captured wight down south to meet with Cersei and explain the whole “we might all be killed and turned into these things” situation. Cersei is ready to help, if and only if, Jon pledges fealty. But annoyingly honest Jon says he can’t serve two queens at once. Dany and Jon have some cute banter here, joking about how effed they are, and Jon also questions the reliability of the witch who told Dany she couldn’t have children.
Dany sets sail with Jon, in more ways than one
While plotting their move up north, Jon convinces Dany to sail with him rather than fly on her dragons. Once inside the ship, it doesn’t take long for Jon to go knocking on Dany’s door. The two get it on while Bran’s voiceover plays, confirming that Jon’s father is Rhaegar Targaryen, aka Dany’s brother. What would otherwise be a great sex scene is made extremely cringey by the secret aunt/nephew relationship.
