JoJo Siwa defends 10-year-old’s single ‘Like Taylor Swift’ from online bullying: ‘Lose your ego’

Just days after releasing her first single, “Like Taylor Swift,” 10-year-old Everleigh Rose LaBrant has become the subject of some pretty cruel internet fodder. But at least one person in Hollywood appears to be sticking up for her: JoJo Siwa.
Siwa recently posted a TikTok happily singing along to the tween’s new song in her car. She also took a moment to call out the “bullies” who’ve been bashing it online.
“To anyone who has said anything negative about this song … you need to calm down,” Siwa wrote in the video text of her post.
The “Boomerang” singer, who has appeared in YouTube videos with Everleigh in the past, elaborated further in her post caption, explaining that being a kid in the public eye is a lot harder than it looks.
“If you’ve posted something knocking this [song], you should be embarrassed,” the singer wrote. “I also without a doubt can say that Everleigh is one of the kindest and hardest working kids i’ve ever had to joy of getting to be around and she absolutely deserves all the love an success she has.”
Everleigh is the eldest daughter of Savannah and Cole LaBrant, who post popular social media content under “The LaBrant Fam” for years. As a result, 10-year-old Everleigh has lived most of her life in the public eye, appearing in countless YouTube videos, Instagram posts and TikToks with her parents and three younger siblings.
That said, her foray into music is a new one — and so far, not everyone’s been kind.
The lyrics, which are said to have been written by Everleigh herself, include lines like, “My hair’s blowing through the wind, Taylor Swift on the radio all weekend/ Sweet tea, sixteen, on my trampoline, yeah.”
Since Everleigh posted on Sept. 4, the official music video for “Like Taylor Swift” has racked up more than 1.2 million views and 1,200 comments.
But it also sparked a ton of debate.
For instance, a mega thread about the song in the subreddit “LaBrantFamSnark” has commenters comparing the tune to Rebecca Black’s viral single, “Friday,” which people widely mocked in 2012.
That said, most of the criticism isn’t about Everleigh or the song but about her parents.
“All of the blame should 100% be on Savannah and Cole Labrant,” wrote u/ProfessionalZombie95. “This poor child is EXHAUSTED you can tell.”
“i feel bad for the kid because even if she wanted to do this, she definitely doesn’t understand the repercussions of social media,” added u/Zealousideal-Army489.
This isn’t the first time the LaBrant family sparked controversy. Just last year, the couple released a so-called “pro-love” documentary, in which they reportedly compared abortion to the Holocaust and faced considerable backlash.
