Johnson County doughnut shop opens soon in this former bakery space — with a big prize

Duck Donuts, a South Carolina-based doughnut chain, is opening its Prairie Village shop Saturday.

The new spot, 4002 W. 83rd St. in Corinth Square, will begin serving customers at 7 a.m.

The doughnut shop is taking over the former Great Harvest Bread Co. space, which closed in 2022 after more than 40 years in the metro. Great Harvest still has a location in Lawrence.

Duck Donuts will celebrate its opening by giving away a dozen free doughnuts per month for a year to the first customer in line, according to a release.

This is the second location for owners Katie and Ryan McNeil. The couple opened the metro’s first Duck Donuts in Ranch Mart North in 2018 but later moved it to 12130 State Line Road in Leawood.

Duck Donuts opened another location near Gladstone at 5536 N.E. Antioch Road earlier this year.

The company was founded in Duck, North Carolina, in 2007 and offers made-to-order doughnuts with a variety of toppings and flavors, including blueberry lemonade, cinnamon bun and maple bacon.

Duck Donuts has more than 100 locations across the country.

The Prairie Village location will be open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays, and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays.
