Johnson City Public Library reopens after nearly a month of renovations

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) – The Johnson City Public Library has reopened after undergoing renovations for a month.

The library has been upgraded to provide guests with a cleaner and safer reading environment. It now has vinyl, non-slip flooring and other aesthetic upgrades.

Julia Turpin, director at the Johnson City Public Library, told News Channel 11 that the renovation complements the existing 25-year-old facility.

“We really love it so far,” Turpin said. “And so I think folks are going to enjoy it, too. It was very much a team effort. We knew we wanted high-quality vinyl flooring. And so, looking at the colors and patterns, which are endless, it was a small group, but ultimately, it was my decision. So I hope that everyone is very happy with what we selected.”

Renovations were done to the following:

  • first-floor entryways

  • lobby

  • hallways

  • Polly Peterson Room

  • Jones Meeting Center

Turpin said the upgrades make the facility more accessible to clean and will potentially make the space quieter, too.

The library’s staff invites the community to see the new upgrades and pick up a library card.

“So if anyone ever has ideas, we’d love to hear about how we can better utilize what we have here,” Turpin said. “I mean, if you’re a patron who’s excited about flooring, come by and get a library card and see what we have. Start using our space. We’ve got some reading coming in just a couple of weeks, so there’s always something fun happening.”
