Johnny Depp Makes Unexpected Appearance at the MTV VMAs

The actor appeared as a moon person on the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards.
Johnny Depp made a surprise appearance during the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on Sunday night.
However, Depp's appearance wasn't physical; his face was digitally overlayed into the helmet of a floating astronaut (or, as the show calls it, a moon person) for multiple appearances throughout the night.
"And you know what? I needed the work," Depp, in a space suit, told the crowd in the first cameo.
"I want you guys to know that I'm available for birthdays, bar mitzvahs, bat mitzvahs, weddings, wakes.... any old thing you need. Oh, I'm also a dentist," Depp said in another post-commercial break.

He even shared a snippet of the moment on his Instagram with the caption, "guess who? #VMAs"

He appeared in another moment, noting: "Hey VMAs, let's get back to the f—ing music, shall we?"
The 59-year-old actors appearance was speculated by TMZ and the New York Post, and while it seems as though the rumors were true, Depp's digital appearance was definitely unexpected.
It also marked his first mainstream TV appearance just three months after his defamation trial with his ex-wife, Amber Heard.
Although Depp has been on an acting break, The Hollywood Reporter announced this month that he would return to direct his first film in 25 years – a biopic titled Modigliani, which is co-produced by Al Pacino. The actor is also portraying King Louis XV in Jeanne du Barry, which marks Depp's first role in a feature in three years.
