Johnny McIntyre and Amy Tiffany are one of five couples who got engaged in The Pods on Love Is Blind Season 6—sight unseen. Love Is Blind, which first premiered on Netflix in February 2020, follows around 30 men and women over the course of a couple weeks as they speed-date in “Pods,” where they can talk to each other but not see each other. During the 10 days, the couples can decide if they want to get engaged—still sight unseen. After the proposal, the couples meet face-to-face for the first time and go on vacation at a resort in Mexico, where they learn more about each other and meet the other couples. After the trip, the couples, who all live in the same city, return to the real world and move into an apartment together as they meet each other’s families and friends and prepare for their weddings. At the altar on their wedding days, the couples must decide whether to marry or break up as they answer the age-old question of if love can be truly blind.

Since the premiere of Love Is Blind, the show has become one of Netflix’s highest-rated series, with more than 30 million views in its first two months. “Across the world, everybody feels the same way: Everyone wants to be loved for who they are on the inside. It doesn’t matter where you live, what you look like, how old you are, what your background is, which class you know, or social structure you feel like you’re a part of, everyone wants to be loved for who they are,” creator Chris Coelen told Variety in 2020. “In today’s society we’ve got all these ways to find love through dating apps and technology. Those things sort of counterintuitively have made people feel disposable. They’ve made people feel like it’s all surface level. It does the opposite thing it was supposed to do. So we thought, what if we took everybody’s devices away, how could we get them to focus on connecting with other people?”

Unlike other couples, Johnny and Amy weren’t involved in a main love triangle on Love Is Blind Season 6, though Amy noted after the reveal that Johnny wasn’t her typical type but she loved him anyway. “I honestly wouldn’t have approached somebody that looked like him in the real world because I always had my fixations on ethnic men. But honestly, it wouldn’t have really mattered what he looked like because I feel like I truly fell in love for his heart and soul,” Amy said. When asked by Entertainment Tonight in February 2024 whether they were still together, Johnny and Amy both teased their relationship status. “You’ll just have to tune in to find out,” Amy said. In an interview with Elite Daily in February 2024, Johnny and Amy opened up about the days leading to their proposal. “I didn’t really know personally if we were there yet, if we were at the point where we should be engaged,” Johnny said. “The day before, I was still really unsure if I wanted to actually propose or not.”
He continued, “I had an issue with the timing aspect of it. You’re supposed to be engaged on day eight or day nine. We were definitely at the point of being boyfriend/girlfriend, but I didn’t know what it was going to take to make that next leap into being an engaged couple.”
Amy, for her part, also told the site about what it was like to see Johnny for the first time. “There were so many things going on in that moment. You’re matching the voice to the face and it’s forming a puzzle of some sort,” Amy said. “He wasn’t the type that I would’ve typically gone for in the past, but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s still handsome. Obviously, we had formed a mental and emotional connection and I wanted to continue exploring that.”
Johnny and Amy also explained why they chose each other out of everyone in The Pods. “I definitely talked to everyone that was there and we had good conversations,” Johnny said. “But as far as on that next level of, ‘Do I see myself spending the rest of my life with you?’ it was really only Amy.” Amy added, “In the beginning, there were other connections, but I feel like I narrowed it down to Johnny just because of the special connection that we shared.”
