'John Wick' Cast Members Pay Tribute to Late Co-Star Lance Reddick at LA Premiere

Reddick passed away on March 17.

At the Los Angeles premiere of John Wick: Chapter 4, Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Shamier Anderson, and director Chad Stahelski paid tribute to late co-star Lance Reddick.

While speaking to Associated Press, Reeves said, "Lance was a very beautiful person, [a] special artist. He had such a passion for his work and his craft. He was gracious, he had a dignity to him and a presence. Just to be in his light and get a chance to work with him, I'll cherish forever."

Fishburne got emotional speaking about Reddick's death. "We lost our brother in a really sort of shocking way," he noted. "I think we're all still in shock, and we're elated to be here. The movie's great. He's great in the movie and we just hope that people enjoy it."

The actor continued, "We dedicate the film to him and his family. Life is…hard sometimes."

Anderson, who joined the John Wick franchise for the fourth installment, spoke about his admiration towards Reddick.

"I grew up watching Lance Reddick. It is a bittersweet moment because he was definitely one of my heroes growing up as an actor, as a Black actor," Anderson shared. "And even though we didn’t share screen time together in this film, we shared some time off camera and he was salt of the Earth when he first met me."

The actor recalled Reddick's touching words to him on set: "He said, 'Shamier, you’re incredible. I love your work man,' and like, it melted me like a puddle."

Stahelski also opened up about his love for Reddick, adding, "You know, it's always hard when you lose someone that you love dearly…but you're also incredibly grateful for the time you had together. We were fortunate enough to work with Lance since the very beginning of the John Wick franchise."

Prior to speaking on the red carpet, Reeves and director Chad Stahelski gave a joint statement to Deadline about Reddick's passing.

"We are deeply saddened and heartbroken at the loss of our beloved friend and colleague Lance Reddick," they wrote. "He was the consummate professional and a joy to work with. Our love and prayers are with his wife Stephanie, his children, family and friends. We dedicate the film to his loving memory. We will miss him dearly."

Reddick died of natural causes at 60 years old on March 17.
