About Dior

Dior was founded in 1942 in France by Christian Dior. At first, the multinational luxury fashion house started off solely with clothes before expanding in 1950. The expansion, which was part of a licensing program devised by Jacques Rouët, the general manager of Dior Ltd, began with neckties. The Dior name then evolved once hosiery, furs, hats, gloves, handbags, jewelry, lingerie and scarves were added. In 1955, Yves Saint Laurent worked as Dior’s first and only assistant. In 1957, Dior died from a heart attack, leading Laurent to take over the artistic direction of the brand until 1960; in 1962, he launched his own fashion house. Since then, Dior has undergone several changes in business and creative control. Currently, Maria Grazia Chiuri is the creative director for all things associated with Women’s Dior, while Kim Jones is the creative director for Dior Men.
