John Mayer Reveals the Truth Behind Those Kourtney Kardashian Dating Rumors

Rumors of a John Mayer/Kourtney Kardashian romance have been circulating for about six months now, buoyed by the newly 40-year-old Kardashian’s allegiance to Mayer, 41, during a game of Ellen DeGeneres’s “Who’d You Rather.”

As the story goes, Kourt and the serial dating crooner ran into each other at the GQ Men of the Year party in December and he reportedly told her their meeting was “sweet serendipity” (it’s OK to cringe). Despite his perceived interest in the reality star, Kourt wasn’t into it (for what it’s worth, she chose him over Post Malone, Trevor Noah, Shawn Mendes, Lewis Hamilton, Zac Efron, and Michael B. Jordan just five months later).

But that’s not to say he’s anti-Kardashian. "I actually like the Kardashians. If you break it down to your interactions with them, they're very nice people,” he explained, "I think any objection to them is more philosophical, and I don't really have a philosophical objection to people that I don't get on with every day.” OK …

Mayer went on to explain what really happened, beginning with the fact that he’d crashed the GQ party in question. "I ran into the bass player from the Scorpions … And then Kourtney Kardashian walks up and I said, 'Kourtney, walk away. He's the bass player from the Scorpions, he's going to try to get you in a video.' ... All I did was save Kourtney Kardashian from being in a video with the bass player from the Scorpions."

After dating several major celebrities, including Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Simpson, and Katy Perry, the singer thinks he’s “post-celebrity relationship” in his life. But despite that stance, the rumors don’t bother him — in fact, he respects their origin.

"I got to be honest with you, little suspicious about the origin of the story. I'm not sure the calls are not coming from inside the house on this one," he told Cohen. "I will say, if the call is coming from inside the house, it's diabolical and genius. When people start gossiping about you and someone else, and they start putting your picture together, it gets real suggestive. You're like, 'Well, if I do then everything kind of falls into place because everyone is already putting us together.' So, it's a genius idea."

As for the “sweet serendipity,” Mayer swears he’s not that corny. “The only part that made me upset to any degree was that somebody said that when I saw Kourtney, I said, 'It was sweet serendipity running into you,' which I would never say … I didn't say that because that's hyper corny."

Sorry, Jourtney shippers (a second cringe is fair), but Kourt’s body is not John’s wonderland.
