Since the beginning of quarantine, John Legend has been dressing from the waist up, going barefoot and admiring his shoes from afar. “So often we’ve been in our house clothes, and even in a Zoom meeting, you might dress the upper half. But let’s be honest, you probably have shorts underneath,” he said.

Now he’s getting the chance to dress up for a change. As one of the most dominant forces of 2020, the singer and Sperry brand ambassador has been vocal throughout this year on topics ranging from the presidential election to racial inequalities, and he’ll be sharing his insights with the industry tomorrow.

Legend is set to appear in two pivotal moments during the virtual FN Achievement Awards on Dec. 8. It will be a night to remember.

Not only will Legend kick off the evening, but he’ll also come back later in the event to talk about the social justice movement that defined the year.

For the Grammy Award-winning artist, 2020 has been a challenging one, but he said his proudest moment has revolved around his children: Luna and Miles. “I love being a dad,” he told FN. “Seeing them blossom and develop into intelligent and kind little people makes me proud.”

Legend joins a star-studded roster of special guests during the FNAAs, including style icon Iris Apfel, Manolo Blahnik, stylist Law Roach and Tommy Hilfiger.

For 34 years, the annual FN Achievement Awards — often called the “Shoe Oscars” — have celebrated the style stars, best brand stories, ardent philanthropists, emerging talents and industry veterans. The first virtual FNAAs will air online on Dec. 8 with a pre-show at 5:45 p.m. and the show at 6 p.m. ET and are presented in partnership with The Style Room Powered by Zappos, and sponsors FDRA, Deckers Brands, Soles4Souls and Foot Locker.
