John Legend Reveals the Touching Meaning Behind Daughter Esti’s Name

This connection is too sweet!

John Legend and Chrissy Teigen's newborn daughter has a very sentimental name, the fact that she received the touching moniker at all was pure happenstance.

The Voice judge announced the birth of their new babe while on stage at a private concert on the evening of Jan. 13, and Teigen revealed her name, Esti Maxine Stephens, on Instagram nearly a week later.

Now, in a new interview with E! News' Courtney Lopez, the singer is sharing that, while his wife is the one who came up with Esti's first name, it actually has a connection to his side of the family.

In a revelation that airs on tonight's episode of E! News, Legend says, "It turns out, my great-grandmother was named Esther." Esti wasn't "intentionally" named after his great-grandma, but once Teigen pitched the name, he made the connection.

Her middle name, on the other hand, comes from Legend's grandmother, whose middle name was also Maxine. "So, it's a lot of my family in the name," he adds.

The loving parents, who also share Luna, 6, and Miles, 4, as well as Jack, who they lost in October of 2020, at 20 weeks, due to a partial placental abruption, clearly couldn't be more thrilled with their new arrival.

When introducing her to the world, Teigen wrote, in part, "...the house is bustling and our family could not be happier 💕 Daddy sheds nightly tears of joy seeing Luna and Miles so full of love...We are in bliss," and it's more than obvious!
