John Legend Just Revealed Why He and Chrissy Teigen Named Their Son Miles

And its connection to big sister Luna.

It’s been a big day for the littlest member of John Legend and Chrissy Teigen’s family: Just hours after their newborn son made his Instagram debut, baby Miles Theodore also got his first red-carpet shoutout at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards.

Just days after becoming a father of two, Legend headed to the BBMAs to perform—but before he took the stage, the proud dad talked up his newborn son to E!’s Jason Kennedy on the red carpet. And while gushing about their latest addition (as all new parents do), Legend revealed the meaningful inspiration behind little Miles Theodore’s name.

Just like big sister Luna Simone, Miles Theodore shares a name with a musical icon. “We named our first daughter Luna Simone Stephens, and every name we give to our kids will have a little bit of musical history to it,” Legend said, referencing the legendary civil rights activist and soul singer Nina Simone. “Miles is, of course, the same name as the great Miles Davis,” he added, paying tribute to the famous jazz trumpeter.

As for Miles’ middle name, “Chrissy really liked the name Theodore, so we put it all together and had Miles Theodore Stephens,” Legend shared. “When he came out and we hung out with him for a little while, we were like, ‘He looks like a Miles.’”

And while Legend was talking all things Miles on the red carpet, Teigen was watching at home and sharing her famous sense of humor via Twitter. “Wow didn’t u just have a baby John smh go take care of it !!!!!! disgusting,” she tweeted, poking fun at Twitter trolls who had previously criticized the parents for going out. Later, she shared the family's dinner plans and Luna's unenthused reaction to her dad's performance.

You can always count on Teigen for Twitter fire and Legend for a soul-shaking stage performance, but the scoop on baby Miles’ name was a BBMAs bonus.
