John Legend lifted spirits at the 2020 BET Awards.

On Sunday night, the Grammy-winning singer gave a moving performance of his ballad “Never Break” from his latest album Bigger Love. Instead of performing at home, John's produced music video featured the artist singing in what appeared to be an abandoned warehouse.

“Thank you @BET for inviting us to sing this song today. #WeWillNeverBreak,” the 41-year-old tweeted afterward.

Fans of John were overwhelmed by his performance, immediately showing an outpour of love and support on Twitter.

“Thank you. Full body chills and tears.❤️,” one person wrote. “This is so beautiful,” another added. “That had layers. I got choked up. Heartwarming and inspiring. Thank you,” a different fan said. “Amazing and soulful performance!” a follower commented.

As viewers may know, the major awards show was held virtually for the first time amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Amid Black Lives Matter protests, CBS decided to air the ceremony on its network.

Released on Juneteeth, Bigger Love was inspired by John’s love for his wife, Chrissy Teigen, their children, Luna and Miles, and Black culture.

“During these painful times, some of us may wonder if it’s ok to laugh or dance or be romantic,” he wrote on Instagram. “But it’s important for us to continue to show the world the fullness of what it is to be black and human. Through our art, we are able to do that. This album is a celebration of love, joy, sensuality, hope, and resilience, the things that make our culture so beautiful and influential.”

Before the night was over, John won Best Video of the Year for his feature on DJ Khaled’s hit “Higher” alongside the late Nipsey Hussle.
