John Cho Shares Disappointment Over Live-Action 'Cowboy Bebop' Cancellation

During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter about his new book, Troublemaker, which chronicles L.A. Riots from a Korean perspective, John Cho touched on his disappointment over the cancellation of Cowboy Bebop.

The Korean-American actor revealed his feelings about the sudden ending of the live-action adaptation of the iconic anime. "It was very shocking and I was bummed." Cho suffered an injury while filming the show for Netflix in New Zealand and pushed through his rehab to complete filming. Placing his full focus on the development of the adaptation, Cho even moved his family with him to New Zealand during filming. "I put a lot of my life into it...It was just a huge event in my life and it was suddenly over."

Understandably disappointed over how things turned out, Cho notes that he is "very warmed" by how fans responded to the series. "I'm mystified a little bit about how you can connect with people that you don't know doing your work, but I won't question it. I will value it and treasure it. I'm just really deeply appreciative that anyone would care. It's stunning to me." Adding that he wishes that things were different and he could have contacted everyone that worked on Cowboy Bebop to celebrate good news.

Netflix's highly-anticipated adaptation of the Cowboy Bebop anime was met with mixed reviews upon its release. With dropping viewing numbers upon its premiere, the streaming platform ultimately decided to cancel the series after one season.
