Joe Jonas Handles Breakup from Gigi Hadid With Blue Hair

Joe Jonas and Gigi Hadid split earlier this month after five months together (ICYMI), and Jonas hit the streets of New York last week to show off his new post-breakup look. His naturally blue-black hair just got a whole lot brighter with a streak of electric blue, or as his stylist Laura Estroff of Brooklyn’s Kennaland salon describes it, “lapis lazuli blue.” The two decided on the placement and shade together using inspiration photos that Jonas brought in. And Estroff bleached his hair to white blonde in order to achieve the perfect tone. “I used a combination of colors to ensure an individualized tone specifically for Joe,” she told People. “I have also created a conditioner, using Evo Fabuloso Pro, for him to use while he is on tour” to maintain the bright color.

Jonas recently joined the band DNCE and sold out a show at Webster Hall in New York, so he may be changing his look to suit his new sound in addition to his new singledom. At the American Music Awards on November 22, Jonas hit the red carpet with even more blue added to his hair.The Jo Bro is joining the ranks of 25+ celebrities who have had blue hair at one time or another, but is among the first man to take the plunge. We recall Jared Leto’s stint with blue hair in 2011, when he was allegedly fighting with his then girlfriend, model Katharina Damm, but Leto is notorious for experimenting with hair color (he’s had platinum blonde, hot pink, and green hair just this year alone). Also, One Direction’s Niall Horan appeared with light blue hair in 2012, one month after his ex-girlfriend Holly Scally went public about the stresses on their relationship due to fame and touring that caused their breakup. We like the look but hopefully Jonas’s blue hair doesn’t mean he’s feeling blue after his breakup from Hadid.
