Michelle Young’s season of The Bachelorette just kicked off and there’s already been a lot of drama. One person who made waves early on? Joe Coleman.

Joe and Michelle had a kinda awkward first meeting after the Bachelorette star realized they’d met before. “Have I met you before?” Michelle asked. “Have I slid into your DMs? Is your last name Coleman?”

Joe, 28, gave a little smile and said, “Yeah, that’s me.” Then he sauntered away.

Turns out, Michelle and Joe had DMed way before filming the show, as she explained to cohosts Tayshia Adams and Kaitlyn Bristowe. And they’re both former basketball players so they had a good banter going on until, as Michelle said, Joe totally “ghosted” her.

Michelle confronted Joe about the whole thing. And he kind of gave her a weak answer about having a lot going on in his life at the time—and Michelle certainly didn’t look impressed. Michelle gave Joe the last rose of the night, seemingly in retaliation, but the two looked pretty cozy at one point in a teaser trailer for the season.

So who is Joe Coleman, again? Here’s what you need to know about the man who totally ghosted Michelle.

He’s from Minnesota.

Minneapolis, to be exact. And no way—Michelle is from Minnesota, too!

He’s a former basketball star.

Michelle mentioned that the two both played basketball in college.

But it looks like Joe was a pretty big deal. He was named Minnesota’s Mr. Basketball during his high school senior year in 2011, according to TwinCities.com. He even went on to play at the University of Minnesota for his freshman and sophomore years before he transferred to Saint Mary’s College of California, where he played only one game for the school due to an injury. Joe even says in his official Bachelorette bio that “basketball was his first true love.”

He’s a real estate developer.

According to his Bachelorette bio and LinkedIn profile, Joe works for C&S Group, where he’s a property manager and investor for single-family/small multi-family properties in the Minneapolis area. He’s been at the gig since November 2020. Before that, he was a healthcare sales rep and before that, he was a basketball trainer.

He wants to start a family.

It's evident from Joe's Instagram that he's good with children. (He's got multiple snaps of his nephew.) Joe’s Bachelorette bio also says that he’s now “ready to build a life outside of sports and find a wife.” He also wants to have three or four kids.

He’s not a huge Instagrammer.

Joe only has two posts from the last year: one from April, where he acknowledged that “it’s been a while.” And another from earlier this week where he said that it was “great to finally meet” Michelle.

Before that, his last post was from 2019.
