I have watched The Silence of the Lambs at least six times, and while I know that might seem kind of unhinged, Jodie Foster as Clarice Starling truly can’t be beat. Obviously, I was thrilled to see her return to her murder-solving roots in season 4 of True Detective, and even more thrilled about her supporting role in Nyad, which earned her a 2024 Oscar nomination. She showed up at the ceremony last weekend in a beautiful, sleeveless Loewe dress punctuated by a smooth and radiant complexion.

I can only assume her elegant gown was in the four- or five-figure price range, but thankfully, her Oscars beauty regimen was super affordable: SmashBox’s $41 Halo Healthy Glow Tinted Moisturizer was the key to her red carpet complexion, according to her makeup artist, Brett Freedman. He told InStyle that Foster “isn’t big on feeling her foundation,” so they opted for this tinted moisturizer because it’s “subtle and very skin-like.”

Makeup-skincare hybrids are now the norm in the beauty industry, but tinted moisturizers were arguably the first on the scene. Available in 20 shades, SmashBox’s formula wraps all of the benefits of a primer, moisturizer, serum, SPF, and skin tint into one tidy product. In fact, after carefully studying the ingredients, I think its name actually undersells it.

On the skincare front, there’s niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, and peptides. Respectively, these inclusions smooth out texture, fade hyperpigmentation, increase plumpness, and reduce wrinkles. The result is a super moisturizing, light-to-medium coverage that evens out skin tone and gives it a touch of radiance without masking the natural complexion.

It seems tons of reviewers are on board, too. A 52-year-old shopper called the tinted moisturizer “perfect,” adding that it “leaves skin looking radiant and healthy, and doesn't sink into wrinkles.” A 56-year-old hospital worker echoed the positivity. “It doesn't settle into fine lines around my eyes. My pores look smoothed out, they wrote. “I can't believe how beautiful my skin looks 14 hours later.”
