Last night, at the London film premier of Free Guy in Leicester Square, Jodie Comer and the stars showed us a thing or two about dressing for unpredictable British weather. Everyone approached the red (er, blue) carpet completely differently, leaving lucky us with plenty of summer event dressing ideas.

This has been one heck of an unpredictable summer. From on-off rain, to chilly temps and a pingdemic, it can sometimes feel hard to plan anything, let alone your outfit. But let's take a deep dive into three looks from the premiere: three women, three very different styles, and three perfect approaches to dressing smartly during a chilly, rainy August.

Let's face it: it's just...not that warm this summer? And, as we've all learned the hard way before, freezing your buns off in a teeny tiny dress is never worth it if you're just shivering the whole night. Jodie opted for a black velvet jumpsuit by Emporio Armani, which is perfect for a chilly evening event. She kept it seasonal with open toed heeled sandals, and the leather and rhinestone accents make the piece feel more formal (than, say, a cotton jumpsuit). Jodie amped up the look with bright, matte lipstick, a plunging neckline, and undone waves. Perfection.

Look 2: Olivia Bowen // The Leather Trouser

The famous Love Island alum reminds us of another genius styling hack for looking smart when it's chilly: the leather trouser. The straight-leg shape is bang on trend, and so is the deconstructed top with a purposefully visible bra. Her neon colour pop accessories remind us that it is, in fact, still summer.

Think of it this way: if you find the perfect pair of leather trousers now, they're something you can easily wear all year round, so they are an excellent cost-per-wear investment. And with clever styling, they can be appropriate or fit for a night out.

Look 3: Laura Jackson // The Special Midi Dress

On the other end of the style spectrum, we have Laura Jackson's pretty statement tea dress. The lace-trimmed collar and giant pearly buttons bump it up a notch for evening, making it clear that this isn't your average floral sundress - it's a special occasion dress. Black pointed toe heels pair perfectly with it. Similarly to leather trousers, a smart, long-sleeved midi dress will wear well all year round.

So there you have it - three totally different (but equally gorgeous) style approaches to the same event. Which looks are you filing away for the upcoming dates in your diary?
