The women's ice hockey final at the PyeongChang Games went to penalties - quite the nailbiter, if ice hockey players weren't wearing gloves? In the end, Team USA beat their Canadian rivals in a 3-2 shootout. It's the first time the U.S. women's team has beaten Canada for first place in twenty years-worth of Winter Olympics.

Spectators in the arena, as well as viewers who tuned into the final, saw as Canadian player Jocelyne Larocque struggling with the loss - she immediately removed her silver medal from her neck after being awarded it during the medal ceremony. She then stood, head bowed, with it clasped in her hand until it was time for the teams to leave the podium.

According to the Chicago Sun Times, Americans at the venue chanted "put your medal on" as Larocque walked off the ice, and she has also received a very negative reaction from many online. On Twitter, people criticized the 29-year-old athlete, calling her an "embarrassment" and "poor loser," and her Wikipedia page was updated to reflect her controversial move:

Larocque played for Canada at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, where he and her teammates went home with the gold after Canada beat the U.S. 3-2 in overtime of the title game. Neither Larocque nor her teammates have not issued a statement about the backlash, and Canada's women's hockey team also did not comment on her actions on Twitter. They did, however, say they were "incredibly proud" after a "heartbreaking loss."
