This Joanna Gaines Countertop Hack Helps You Make the *Best* Use of Space

Cluttered countertops affect all of us at one point or another. But seemingly not Joanna Gaines, whose farmhouse-style kitchens always look beautifully edited. Such is the reason that, when pouring through her new design book, Homebody, we paid extra close attention to her countertop styling advice.

First things first: If you're lacking prep space, Jo says you need to "clear your counter of everything but the essentials." Read: Everyday spices, cooking oils and utensils. She then goes on to suggest using your "cutting boards to keep items organized." By using your cutting board as a decorative tray of sorts, the win is twofold: You corral your essentials in a neat vignette and your cutting board doubly earns its keep as countertop real estate.

Peep the photo above—how clever and kitchen-appropriate? We swoon for a good function-meets-design moment.
