Jinkx Monsoon’s musical theater world domination is just getting started!

On Wednesday, Feb. 28, the Doctor Who actress and two-time RuPaul’s Drag Race winner announced that she’ll be playing Audrey — the lead female character — in the three-time Best Musical Revival Award-winning production of Little Shop of Horrors. Monsoon is taking over the role from Evan Rachel Wood (Westworld), who’ll finish her run in the musical on Mar. 31.

Starting Apr. 2, Monsoon will star as Audrey alongside Corbin Bleu (In the Heights, High School Musical) as Seymour and James Carpinello (Rock of Ages, The Punisher) as Dr. Orin Scrivello. Monsoon wrote in a statement:

Little Shop of Horrors was my favorite movie musical as a kid but Audrey is a role I considered out of the realm of possibility for me. To get to play her in this incredible production is terribly exciting. As a drag queen who grew up watching the iconic Ellen Greene performance, I’m thrilled and honored to get to bring Audrey to life in a whole new way that also pays homage to her memorable origins.”

This off-Broadway revival of Little Shop of Horrors has been in theaters since 2019 when the show was revived with Jonathan Groff as Seymour and Tammy Blanchard as Audrey. The Little Shop of Horrors book and lyrics were written by Howard Ashman, with music by Alan Menken. This revival was directed by Michael Mayer and choreographed by Ellenore Scott.

Monsoon has made several references to Little Shop in her previous work, such as this clip from her Red Head Redemption comedy special that’s now going viral on social media.

Following her original Broadway debut in Chicago in early 2023, Monsoon announced that she’s returning for another limited run as Matron “Mama” Morton between Jun. 27 and Jul. 12, 2024. She has also previously announced her Carnegie Hall debut concert on Valentine’s Day 2025.

Otherwise, this Drag Race legend has recently released a new fragrance, Hera, which sold out in just 25 hours. “Perfume became important to me when I really started to invest in how I present myself to the world,” Monsoon told WWD. “In my own trans identity and my own gender journey, I’m constantly self-manifesting and constantly finding ways to be more myself, to find new ways to present myself to the rest of the world so that they see me and smell me the way I want them to know me.”

Jinkx Monsoon keeps reigning supreme, and we love to see it!
