Jimmy Kimmel’s Kids Are From Two Different Marriages—Get to Know His Blended Family

Jimmy Kimmel has a laundry list of accolades under his belt—from hosting the Academy Awards, to running one of late night’s most popular talk shows for two decades and counting. But for Jimmy Kimmel’s kids, being known as “dad” has got to be the biggest honor there is for the comedian.

Kimmel is the proud father of four children. Two of his “kids” aren’t actually kids at all, though—Kimmel has two adult children, daughter Katie Kimmel and son Kevin Kimmel, whom he welcomed with his first wife, Gina Maddy. Kimmel and Maddy were married from 1988 until their divorce in 2002.

Over 20 years after welcoming his first child, Kimmel got a new lease on parenthood when he welcomed his youngest daughter, Jane Kimmel, with his current wife, Molly McNearney. McNearney and Kimmel met on the set of Jimmy Kimmel Live, where the comedic writer continues to work as an executive producer alongside her husband. The pair, who tied the knot in July 2013, are also parents to a young son, William “Billy” Kimmel.

Kimmel’s daughter, Katie, was born on August 28, 1991. He welcomed his first and oldest child with his ex-wife, Gina Kimmel (née Maddy). At the time, Kimmel was only 25 years old. In an interview with Vulture in 2017, the late-night talkshow host admitted that he was “exhausted all the time” from working to make ends meet for his growing family. “Most of the pressure I felt with Katie came from me being a 25-year-old guy who had to keep the family afloat,” Kimmel told the outlet. “It was not easy.”

Everything worked out in the end, though. Katie went on to graduate from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2015 and now lives as a working artist in California. She runs her own online shop, where she sells ceramics and clothing with her own designs. Kimmel’s oldest daughter is also married woman herself now: In September 2021, she tied the knot with musician Will Logsdon.

Kimmel joked about his daughter’s nuptials on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, telling DeGeneres, “People keep saying congratulations. I don’t know what I’m being congratulated for.”

“Congratulations on raising a human that is attractive enough to be taken by one person,” he continued. “It’s not like we were trying to get rid of her, you know? It’s not like we’re selling a houseboat on eBay or something like that. But I guess congratulations is the thing.”

Kimmel’s second child, Kevin, was born on September 19, 1993. Like his sister, Kevin didn’t get to spend as much time with his father as the longtime host would have liked due to his busy work schedule, but that doesn’t stop them from bonding over plenty of hobbies together. Kimmel’s oldest son frequently posts about their outings to baseball games; the pair also enjoy going fishing and sitting courtside at NBA games.

These days, Kevin works in television like his dad. He takes on a more behind-the-scenes role as a production assistant, having worked on series like Big Brother and Survivor. Kevin is also married. He tied the knot with his wife, Nicole, in September 2022. “Happy one year anniversary to my lovely wife who after looking down the barrel of a life with me almost immediately moved to another country,” he wrote in an Instagram post in September 2023. “Love you so much @nicolekimmel – praying to god I don’t get in trouble for using the ‘wrong’ pic.” His wife jokingly replied, “approved – you have earned (1) more year of marriage,” proving the sense of humor is strong with these two—just as we imagine Kevin’s dad Jimmy Kimmel would have wanted!

Kimmel and McNearney’s first child together, a daughter named Jane, was born on July 10, 2014 in Los Angeles, California. Throughout the years, the former Academy Awards host has opened up about his daughter plenty of times during his late night show.

When she was four years old, he told the audience about her birthday party, where she had a pretty hilarious response to her PAW Patrol-themed bash. “For her birthday she asked for a PAW Patrol piñata,” he said at the time. “And we got her one, and it was a terrible piñata. It wasn’t even shaped like anything, just a rectangle with four dogs on it, one of which was Chase, that’s her favorite dog.”

“Finally, they cracked this thing open and the candy comes out and they all dive in and fight each other for it,” Kimmel recalled. That’s when his wife, McNearney, noticed Jane staring at the sad remains of her piñata “in little puppy pieces on the ground.” Kimmel shared, “Jane looks at it, and says to no one in particular, ‘I can’t believe we beat up Chase.’ And then she goes—and I don’t know where she got this—but she goes, ‘Look at these guys, they never saw it coming.’”

While she may be one of his youngest, Jane is evidently pretty bright. “My daughter is very precocious,” the comedian also told People in September 2022. His daughter, who was eight years old at the time, had “just lost a tooth,” which meant that the late night show host had to remember to put money under her pillow from the Tooth Fairy. At the time, he joked that she might be expecting a large sum after he and his wife, comedic writer Molly McNearney, forgot to grab some smaller bills for when she lost her first tooth. “Last time, I forgot and I had to throw a much too large $20 bill under her bed because that’s all I had,” Kimmel shared. “We had to explain, ‘Oh, it’s the first tooth. Don’t expect $20 every time.’” If her personality now is any indication, we’d bet she’s going to grow up with plenty of her parent’s wit!

Billy Kimmel

Kimmel and McNearney’s youngest child, William “Billy” Kimmel, was born on April 21, 2017. Just weeks after he was born, the late-night host shared a heartfelt, 13-minute monologue on his late night show, where he revealed that Billy was born with a rare congenital heart defect that required him to have open-heart surgery at just three days old.

“We call him Billy. Six pushes, he was out. He appeared a normal healthy baby,” Kimmel began the monologue. He went on to explain how nurses and doctors quickly realized he had a congenital heart condition. “Basically, the pulmonary valve was completely blocked and he has a hole in the wall between the left and right sides of his heart,” the comedian shared.

“It’s a terrifying thing,” Kimmel said of the experience. “You know, my wife is back in the recovery room, she has no idea what’s going on, and I’m standing in the middle of a lot of worried-looking people—kind of like right now—who were trying to figure out what the problem is.”

Since Billy’s birth, Kimmel has continued to provide health updates on his youngest child. When Billy was 3 months old, Kimmel told The Hollywood Reporter that his son was “doing great.” A few months later, Billy had a second heart surgery and made his first appearance on his dad’s show. “Billy is doing great, by the way. He has one more surgery—this is amazing—he had an operation a week ago,” Kimmel shared. “They say he’ll probably be on track to win at least a bronze medal at the Olympics in 2036.”
