Jimmy Fallon

On tonight’s special “The Road to the Playoffs” episode of The Voice, which will feature the season’s best moments from the Blind Auditions through the Knockout Rounds, including some hilarious never-before-seen moments of the coaches, Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon gets in on the action.

Possibly disguised as William Lee Golden from the Oak Ridge Boys with shades and a long grey beard, Jimmy poses as an audience member, and interrupts host Carson Daly to ask if it’s the part of the show where you take questions from the audience?

Carson says, “We don’t really have that part of the show,” but it doesn’t dissuade Jimmy who continues:

“I have a few questions for everybody. I want to know if the winner of this show gets to go on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon because that’s a quality program. He’s a good guy. I think it would be great for the winner. It would be a treat for the winner if they could go to New York City.”

Then he has a follow up question: “What time does Blake [Shelton] get here?”

Carson suggests, “Well, we should ask Gwen, his wife. Blake hasn’t been on this season.”

Gwen Stefani says, “Never.”

To which Jimmy responds, “Well, I’ll show myself out then.”

As the poorly disguised Jimmy is making his exit, he scampers up the stairs to the stage and asks the band, “Do you know ‘I Left My Heart in San Francisco’?”

And he proceeds to belt out the song made famous by Tony Bennett.

John Legend says, “He sounds so good. I would totally turn my chair for him. Honestly.”

In addition to John, Gwen and Niall Horan say they would have turned their chairs, but Reba McEntire was an adamant no.

John continues, “I was a little emotional. We just lost Tony Bennett and that was one of his songs. I was a little emotional hearing that version. I know Jimmy was trying to be funny, but he sounded really good.”

This isn’t the first time that Jimmy has popped into The Voice for a fun interaction with the coaches. Back in March when the coaches were Blake, Kelly Clarkson, Niall and Chance the Rapper, Jimmy took the stage for a Blind Audition, performing "I Keep Forgettin' (Every Time You're Near)."

As the coaches turned, they dissolved in laughter, but by the end when Blake still hadn’t turned his chair – maybe he suspected it was Jimmy, the Tonight Show host pushed Blake’s button for him.

“The Road to the Playoffs” episode of The Voice airs tonight at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
