So, Jim Carrey and Mussolini's Granddaughter Got into a Fight on Twitter

Please enjoy this Mad-Lib-based reality we all live in now.

Jim Carrey, for some backstory, is a comedic actor. He's also a political painter now. Alessandra Mussolini is a member of European parliament, and, along with Silvio Berlusconi, belongs to center-right Forza Italia party. She's also the granddaughter of Benito Mussolini, the Italian dictator who took power as the head of the National Fascist Party. The older Mussolini basically pioneered modern-day fascism, bringing together nationalism, militarism, brutal repression of dissenters, and centralized control of the economy.

On Saturday, Carrey tweeted a picture of a painting he made of the murder of the late dictator and his mistress, based on a famous photo that shows the two bodies hanging upside-down and beaten beyond recognition. "If you’re wondering what fascism leads to," he wrote as a caption, "just ask Benito Mussolini and his mistress Claretta."

This apparently upset Alessandra Mussolini, who is a defender of her grandfather's legacy, such as it is.

Carrey so far hasn't replied, but lots of other people saw an opportunity to air World War II-era grievances at a direct descendant of one histories biggest villains. Unfortunately for them, Mussolini doesn't seem to care what they think. But she keeps replying anyway.

Anyway, this is real life now. Enjoy it, everyone.
