Jill Duggar recently got candid about her complicated relationship with parents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar—including whether or not they have read her bombshell memoir, Counting the Cost.

Jill—who is now married and shares three children with husband Derek Dillard—released her book in September 2023, finally sharing the truth behind her upbringing as one of the children on TLC's 19 Kids & Counting series.

The book covers her time as part of the Institute in Basic Life Principles (IBLP), a conservative Christian organization of which Jim Bob and Michelle are active members. Jill, now age 32, has since left the organization, which she openly refers to as a "cult" in her explosive tell-all.

Months after the book's release, Jill and Derek sat down with YouTubers and TikTok personalities Abby and Matt Howard for an episode of their Unplanned podcast, where Jill revealed if her parents have read her memoir.

"I've heard that they did [read it]," Jill said during the podcast interview. "I heard that they listened to it on Audiobook or something."

However, she insisted that she didn't "sit down and have a conversation" about it with her parents, as it is "probably a sore subject" for them to talk about."

"I don't know—they're my parents and I'm going to tread lightly," she stated, noting that she hasn't even seen her parents since the book came out.

Jill also explained that she didn't want to "create more controversy," within her family, which has already been through plenty of scandals—most of which are discussed in the Prime Video docuseries, Shiny Happy People.

"I know that they would probably want to sit down with a therapist or something and just hash it out," Jill added of Jim Bob, 58, and Michelle, 57. "But we've tried that before and it just is not the healthiest way to go about it."

"So we're still on the road to figuring things out," she said.
